I arrived to Santo Domingo near noon and went to the second level of the airport (departures) to call an Uber. He told me to go the second level. I paid 700 pesos from the airport to Hotel Riazor in Gazcue which I consider a good deal. Hotel Riazor always let me check in early. I have done 10:00 am Check ins in the past with no additional charges. The cost was $65.00 per night. This hotel is single guest friendly, so it is not threesome or orgy friendly. Air conditioner was ice cold which I like a lot plus the room is clean and comfortable. Next to it you have Manolos which is a 24 HR. Restaurant. El Conuco restaurant is just behind the hotel and Jaragua hotel is in front. I walked to zona Colonial to Frank el Azuano, my favorite exchange place for the past 21 years. Exchange was 50.20 pesos per dollar, . 30 pesos short of the official exchange rate of 50.50 published by my app and Telemicro financial news.

I walked down to the Cathedral plaza and took a seat near the Conde the Pealba restaurant. I am staying at Torre Villamar for $1000 per month or $33 per day. It is right next to hotel Sheraton in av. George Washington.

I even got an airbnb for $900 for month in Torre Armonio 408. The trick is. I usually book it for 1 or 2 days and then try to contact the owner to give me a monthly deal. So we exclude the airbnb commission and maintenance and service fees.

The reason I am able to do that in Santo Domingo as I am going to be here for a few months. So I have the freedom of doing it. But I guess it is not worth the hassle if you are visiting the country for few days.

P.S. These 2 apartments are nicer and more spacious than hotel jaragua. On the contrary. I would really appreciate if they can replace the queen bed with the king or California king bed.

From zona colonial on av George Washington, it will be on your right hand side. Look for the helipad on the left. Once you see the helipad, mixer is on your right just by the road.

Mixer is a regular disco, but really a nice place. This is not a special place for mongering, but if you speak some Spanish, than you will have success for sure, because you are a white guy, this is av. Espana on the other side of the river around 250 peso with uber from zona colonial. I guess I differ with Mr E, despite the fact that he clearly knows the DR. I have found some very affordable airbnb's of very high quality. They are clearly less expensive than my "go to hotel", ie the Palacio on Duarte / Conde. The Palacio is certainly a bit more than $37. It has great service, excellent wi-fi, an occasional employee who offers you her extra services (to be precise, 2 ladies in 17 years) and an absolutely blind eye to two or three visitors at a time. To be certain, they insist on the chica having a cedula, unlike the airbnb, but I look at that as protection from the occasional chica who lies about her age. But an airbnb of quality is $50 a night less than the Palacio and it has a kitchen.

I have given up on airbnb because the Palacio has perfect location and I am of an age when saving $50 a night has little meaning.
