Reading this article about the billionaire sports team owner, it seems to suggest the police faked a bomb threat then planted video cameras in the massage parlor while it was being "evacuated". I agree with you that sexual orientation is not a choice. However, people often use science to promote the misleading concept that sexuality is directly genetic in nature. Just because it's not a choice does not mean that it is determined at birth. Rather, it's genetic disposition in combination with environmental activation. I have as much choice in finding men attractive as I find fat women to be attractive. I cannot just decide to like fat women. Evolution has predisposed me to be attracted to fit women and my environmental upbringing either reinforces or curtails that genetic predisposition. The same can be said with sexual orientation. One does not consciously choose it but it's misleading when some outlets imply that it is determined at birth.

We are not in disagreement. There is evidence that genetics contribute to eventual sexual preference, but there is also evidence that environment has some influence.

But the nature / nurture issue isn't particularly relevant to the issue at hand, that being whether one can will their sexual preference to change. I know of no scientific evidence for willing a change in sexual preference, and any number of authorities agree.

Salaam Citizen, it often baffles us that the super-rich and famous make such bad choices. Are people saying that guys have a choice of becoming gay or heterosexual, as they want? Does that mean that under some circumstances, some of the mongers here can see themselves being gay and being attracted to other men? That's interesting.
