Yes, those Sections in the Thai Criminal Code come very close to stating prostitution is illegal without ever actually saying so (for a provider over age 18) and that is why the debate about it often pops up I think. They are only talking about promoting it openly, publicly. And also that paying money for sex with a girl (person) under the age of 18 is illegal.

The age part of it is also where the age of consent in Thailand gets muddy. As far as I can tell, the age of consent in Thailand is 15, not 18, but sources might disagree or be unclear about it. HOWEVER, if an offer of money is made to someone 15, 16 or 17 years old in exchange for sex then the Sections regarding prostitution are clear that a crime has been committed. It seems to accept that engaging in sex with someone 15, 16 or 17 is not in itself illegal, only if done in exchange for money. But it does not explicitly say so.

I was walking through Soi Cowboy last night about 9:15 PM and, lo and behold, the new "Crazy House 2" bar at the corner of Soi 23 was open for business! Except it isn't called "Crazy House 2". It is called Kozy Kazy. Whatever that means. And we thought the Crazy House/Crazy Horse confusion was annoying.

I believe the above Sections are all about loitering in a public place in order to engage in prostitution, advertising for it, publicly promoting it, "pimping" for it and so on but not about the act of prostitution itself. So the girls standing in front of the Nana Hotel parking lot will scatter or vanish when the police show up to check for visa violations or age violations in the Plaza because they can be busted for standing in front of the Nana Hotel parking lot soliciting for prostitution. However, there does not appear to me to be any reason for them to worry about being busted for the actual exchange of sex for money (or for the customer giving them money for sex) in a customer's hotel room or apartment.

WTF? Elections? Who gives a shit? Does anyone consider Thailand to be a dangerous place? I don't think so. I never had cause to stay away. Just don't go looking for trouble. Stay away from any mob demonstrations should there be any. None of us can predict the future accurately.

I agree. My few surveys of Soi 22 bars and MPs (including sub sois), I always found it very hard to find much in the way of slim pretty girls. Definitely a place for the less picky Expats, I would think. Never really wanted to stay on that Soi.

Are there any exception places? Otherwise I would tend to dub it "Ugly Girls Soi".

I used to go see June at Bongkot but that was long ago, and it closed. I did not see that Bongkot had any other decent girls anyway.

I grew up spending many parts of my summer in Hong Kong in mid 60's after I had got my cherry popped and made it a regular vacation spot while working there were number of times I with my Hong Kong cousins went into China tough for me to explain but in many ways they are like the Indians we talk about on Walking St. Grouping up like little kids around the freelancers but they instead it is done inside a GoGo, as the economy gets better more and more Chinese males are now coming in smaller groups than what we see in the tour buses types. I can't remember the GoGo, I think it was Ninja a few months back, in general, a pack of Chinese came in while the waiter or waitress try to seat them they walk around and around there is always one or two of them who think they know everything the ropes standing in front of the stage with a cig in their hands blocking the view as if they are VIP. The scene I describe reminded me the first time my cousin took me to Korean to get my cherry popped in the mid 60's they use to call these tours to Korea " Goodie tours out of HK " when we get to the ***** complex we be sitting there all like little kids waiting for the roller coaster ride while the tour guy tries to get us to pick.

A few years back I noticed at Bacarra there was more Chinese mainland coming into Bacarra sat next to a number of them but these were in groups of 2-4 I could tell they were more high rollers types more education well rounded today they are the bus tour version. In the beginning, the girls seem excited because they spend like the Japanese and Koreans but now they are sour some. Today when I visit our conversation the girls tell me lots of Chinese " like you " I look at them smiling and reply " I'm not one of them I'm made in the USA A ".

There are 3 countries that are Chinese, China, HK, and Taiwan. They are not the same but they probably will all agree Korean and Japanese dress better. I think Korean has a stronger pop cultural influence in Asia currently.

I don't know the percentage. I read in Chinese forums, sometimes I see posters mention like there were 90% Chinese in there. I know it is an exaggeration but there must be a lot of Chinese in Thermae. Also, Chinese have sex tour groups arranged by travel agent, not sure how many are there, so I won't be surprised to see large group sometimes. The tour group will also engage in group sex, often in large Jacuzzi room inside a soapy.

Yes, if you are a regular at Thermae you will get bored of the lineup. Same girls.

Some were. (walking up to talk to girls, etc) but it seemed to be more of an ogling parade around the premises. To be fair, only stayed several minutes and didn't analyze this phenomenon more closely.

One has always noticed this circular movement of the Asian clientele around Thermae, as they check out the girls (and of course, the girls smile, giggle and wave to them), but there was definitely more of a "mass", more "densely packed" component there last night, which caught my attention / memory when I read Nyezhov's post.

Probably just a temporary singular thing? I dunno. Just caught my eye as well.

I can usually do fairly well in telling those three ethnicities apart (though it would be harder if they were ___-American, because then the mannerisms, clothing, etc would be far more similar)
I can't say I paid attention to the ethnicities at the time, but it definitely seemed not as heavily Japanese as at other times, leaving the other 2.. (and I can usually spot Koreans more easily,) ..

(dressed "cooler" , but "coolness" can be very subjective, and Korean pop culture dominates more than any other , aka "hallyu" in SE Asia. but it's not Korean boybands who come to Thermae. Nyezhov is correct about the Chinese brigade in Thermae (to be fair, I don't remember what percentage I would characterize as Japanese, Korean and / or Chinese) but there was a WALL of Asians (with what seemed to be heavy Chinese component, definitely not as heavily Japanese as in times prior that I have observed) doing the "moving wall in circles"while ogling last night. There was some minor shoving against me, but I kept my cool and kept in mind the cultural differences about personal space and jostling.

I found the talent inside though disappointing, generally speaking (as most often seems to be the case). I also saw what appeared to be the "same" girls in there I have seen before. So much for "freelancers" (there are some in there who may come in on a weekend) but I think most of the girls literally "work" at Thermae every night. There was one very attractive girl with a Japanese guy about a block down as I approached, so I am guessing he grabbed her from Thermae minutes beforehand? (but very few hotties inside, IMO anyways).

I would guess that Election Day will be deemed a 'dry' day, so no alcohol sales permitted. Bars and nightlife venues will likely be closed. This could also be the case (to varying degrees) in the days leading up to the election. If you seriously need alcohol pick some up at the airport Duty Free.

Escorts / FL / SW and massage shops should be operating. So there will be some action as TIT. The days after the election should be situation normal.

None of the girls paid the least bit of attention to me no matter how much I craned my neck to smile at them if for no other reason but in search of signs of life. Were they under orders not to sit with customers for lady drinks on this first night? Or maybe it was only me. Actually, I did not see girls sitting with other customers getting lady drinks either. But, again, maybe that was because it had just opened. I stayed for the one drink and a dance set change, about 12 girls in each set. A couple of guys came IN with girls for whom they bought drinks though.

That is a bummer. Wonder how this place will be 3 months, 6 months, etc from now. Well the hope could be this place eventually gets some lookers and keeps a non-aggressive vibe. But still, reactions from the girls should be expected.
