El Cisne (swan) has a big sign with a swan design. Elegant center is next to El Cisne. Both are located in Pasteur street, this is the street that connects George Washington Ave.(el malecon) to Ave. Independencia. If you stand in front of Intercontinental V Centenario hotel, Pasteur street is the one that is on the left side of the hotel. Both places are a minute walking distance from the hotel entrance. Elegant Center also has a sign in front of the house.

The deal I've got from El Jaragua was the same I've got in two previous ocassions, this time I booked it from Marriot internet page. The merengue bar is inside the Jaragua casino, just turn left from Hotel Jaragua main entrance. The Jaragua casino is the busiest in the country and lots of action happens every night. Some of my expenses were: 100 pesos for a taxi to the area from El Vesubio to Hotel Santo Domingo, 60 pesos to the city , near main buses stations, 17 pesos for a a/c confortable bus from Santo Domingo to Boca Chica Beach(expreso Boca chica bus). Meals from 50 pesos and up, Villar Hermanos is a good unexpensive choice, located at Independencia Ave. and Pasteur Street. They have a coffe shop, a restaurant and a deli-bar. Pollos Victorina is a good fast food choice, chains like Pizza Hut, Dominos, Kentucky and others deliver to the hotel. Massage houses are better than Remington because most are less expensive, you save money from renting a cabana and you dont have to pay for a taxi to go to a cabana. Remington has a better choices of chicas, because there are more not because they have a better personality.

I was in Santo Domingo July 25-28. My hotel was El Jaragua , $115.00 taxes and breakfast included. The Napolitano was full because of El Festival del Merengue. El Napolitano now costs $85.00. According to a Remington Palace girl Hotel Melia Santo Domingo is girl friendly again.

I was in the garden rooms in the back part of el Jaragua and it is no hard to bring chicas here, but it is not easy in the tower rooms. I was blessed by God because the Jaragua Hotel was the hotel for Miss Dominican Republic beauty contest and all rooms next to mine were full of beauties. It was pleasant to see those babes in bikinis, sexy dresses and in lingerie running from room to room.

I was only three days so my time was limited.

At the time of my travel one dollar equals 17.70 pesos.

Dollhouse; Nude club, stage and private dances, cover charges 100 pesos, next visits are free. Private dances 100 pesos per song. All girls are pretty and ranges from 7 to 10. Located at el Malecon, walking distance to Hotel San Geronimo casino, El Vesubio Restaurant, De noche disco and Remington Palace. Worth a visit if you enjoy nude dances. No Dominican girls here.

De noche disco: Next to el Vesubio Restaurant and Bella Blu disco. Near a dozen young streetgirls in front of this place. Some of them asked me 500 to 800 pesos. Some look nasty and attractive but I am always careful with streetgirls. They were very friendly with me but did not tried.

Remington Palace, Ave. Independencia back of El Vesubio Restaurant. This place is nice but I think it is expensive to pay 1500 pesos for a girl, then 100 to 200 pesos for a taxi ride to a motel and then over 300 pesos for the motel , 4 hours. Prices were too high, 1200 for a massage and 1700 pesos for full service. I said goodbye. At the time I visited El Cisne health department authorities were there testing the girls for sexually transmitted diseases. They do it on a monthly basis and is required for girls to work there. Centro de Masajes. In the street that leads to the back entrance of Hotel Jaragua you can find their add in Listin Diario classified adds. A 2 story yellow house owned by a corean couple. Another option is Mercure Hotel (French group Accor), cheaper (USD 80, breakfast included), strategically located on Calle El Conde (main pedestrian street in the colonial town, and one of the social spots of the city) and also girl-friendly; this will be my pick from now on. There are cheaper options (USD 30-40) around the Parque independencia (western tip of Calle El Conde), but you will get what you pay for (no air con'd, power shortage...).

Please try to ferret out alternative spots in SD and then feed us back. Also, I suggest you give a look to the countryside within 30 miles from SD. You will need to rent a cab for the day; you can do that for less than DR$ 400. You will then meet "genuine" natives, which is a different experience from the chicas in SD. You should be able to mingle well if you speak some Spanish and you are unassuming.

nighttime action: middle-class regular discos: cornucopia on avenida venezuela and avenida san vicente ; upscale regular discos: at jarahua hotel (jubile) or jetset; underground disco (in a cave) guaycara taina, for fun. tips: 1) most regular discos are free of charge; if any cover charge, go there on ladies' nights (noche de damas) since there will be plenty of chicas who can't afford it on regular nights; 2) if you stay several days in sd, it is perfectly possible to ferret out non-pro women in these discos, provided you can dance merengue and you speak some spanish though.

remington palace : i confirm it is number one by far in the category of gogo bars. it seems to me that there is a high turnover of chicas, which yields even more diversity. you pay usd 90 (dr $ 1500) after 1 am and the girl should stay all night long; if you leave before 1 am, either you pay that price and she has to come back to remington before 3 am or you pay 2 exit fees (salidas) to have her all the night (up to 11 am).

daytime action: massage parlor mona lisa (open up to 11 pm), allegedly number one for body-body massages.

miscellaneous: 1) open air "disco": avenida del puerto, also called el bonche: this is actually a place where dominicans meet by night and put their car hi-fi on; there are plenty of cars playing different music and the locals just shake it while having a drink. worth having a peek; 2) you should not pay more than dr $ 300 for hiring a taxi all night long; 3) by day, one can hang out on el conde or in the main mall plaza central or go to the beach (e.g. boca chica); several internet cafes there.

my daily budget turned out to be usd 200-220 when accounting for chicas (at remington), hotel, taxi, drinks and food; which is of course twice or thrice as much as in the north (puerto plata...). it is high by dominican republic standards (weekly payroll for a clerk is usd 35-40), but i prefer to pay usd 90 for a 9 than 30 for a 3; in other words, my tastes are not linear !!

contrary to small towns, e.g. sosua, sd looks hot all year long.

MY FAVORITE HOTEL IN SANTO DOMINGO IS THE INTERCONTINENTAL. WALK TO THE JARAGUA (NICEST CASINO), NICE POOL DECK FOR DAYTIME. CLOSE TAXI RIDE TO REMINGTON PALACE. BUT NONE OF THE DECENT HOTELS IN SD ARE REASONABLE. MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO STAY IN SANTO DOMINGO A FEW DAYS AND IN BOCA CHICA A FEW. THIS GIVES YOU A TASTE OF THE BEACH, AND A GOOD AVERAGE HOTEL PRICE.
