Got a My Cat SIM card with 6 Mbps Internet (no speed reductions), just under 2000 Baht for 6 months (or equivalent to 367 Baht per month). Calls are half a Baht per minute, or free to My CAT Friends. No OS use, other than can connect to friends OS over the internet of course. Will get my GF and daughter onto CAT too so calls can be free and they can watch all the movies theey want with great reception even if not home using the landline and wifi. To be honest the speed is better even that the home landline internet with wifi router. Easy to compare by playing a football match or porn or any other video.

My girlfriend's brother downloads several full movies a day to his phone. No drop in speed. Great for video watching, e. G. Football replays, etc. Porn no problem. I know he does a lot of that. LOL. Most well known companies detect big downloads and throttle you.

I will get my own CAT card, when this one runs out of the 6 months. I will probably do the great deal to pay once per year. I m using phone hotspot to give Internet to my laptop and doing my work. It is performing better than the home fixed line in remote Thailand.

Book a place for 1 or maybe 2 nights and then visit places close by or even the place you're in and negotiate for a long-term stay.

I did this in Vientiane when I had a 6-week assignment. I booked a mid-range hotel for 2 nights through Hotels.com and on the first morning of my 2-day stay I spoke to the manager about long-term options. And he dropped 20% off the room rate that I was paying, upgraded me to a better room and threw in free laundry for my entire stay. It turned out to be a great deal and I used it again on 2 other occasions. It shows how much the hotels are gouged by the booking sites for him to do this for me.

The key was the personal approach. It might be less difficult to do on the telephone.

There are plenty of web sites for rental, but I guess if you use English language ones, you will automatically be considered a tourist for a tourist area. I don't think rental rates vary much though between websites in Thai Language and in English (at least for my experience in Bangkok). They just want someone who will pay reliably and not trash the place.
