    Clubs

    Hello,

Been forever, but is Sharky's and Martini Club still flying? What about Heart of Darkness. Back in 2010 it was like 40,000 for a top caliber girl. What's the jam now?

    Cheers.

    Hotels with Pools

I recommend the Himawari. The rooms are super large. The pool is great! And I mean great! The location is on the river in between Darling Darling and the Hostess bars which is not bad. The rates this time of year run between $92 - $100 for a deluxe suite w / bfst and the hotel is girl friendly (most important as many Phnom Penh boutique hotels with pools are not gf).

If money is no object, you can spend a lot more for more luxury at the Sofitel (great pool & gf), but the Sofitel location is not as good as the Himawari IMHO.

    P. S. On those visits when I chose to stay at another hotel which did not have a swimming pool, I frequently paid $8.00/day for guest pool privileges at the Himawari. A pool in Phnom Penh is almost a necessity. 555

    Appreciate any comments.
I did a good bit of research trying to find a girl-friendly hotel near the action with a pool long enough to do proper laps (minimum 20 meters). In the end I gave up. The Raffles (reasonably central) may have a long enough pool (not clear), but is super expensive and not quite in the action. Across the river there is a one or more huge hotel complexes with big pools, but that is far away. In the end I gave up.

    Hotel Okay

I stayed the Hotel Ok in the winter of 2016 and liked it quite a bit. The lobby is a bit ostentatious, and kind of Chinese looking, but cool and different in its own way. I did not think the pool was all that small and really enjoyed the rooftop view from there. I think it's on the 12th floor. Agree that the breakfast was mediocre amd it's a good distance from the river but there were always tuk tuk guys outside the hotel. The rooms had nice nice wood paneling and no problem bring girls in and they take their ID as extra precaution. I initially had stayed my first night in PP in a two story level type hotel next door with a nice garden level pool until I noticed a sign over the front desk saying all guests had to be registered beforehand. I moved out the next morning to the OK.

    Everything sucks in that place.

The guy at the front desk is an asshole, rooms are small, pool is small and full of people inside, breakfast sucks, the lift is always busy so you end up taking the stairs every time.

It's also way overpriced, but it's probably guest friendly as I saw some old barangs with some bar girls inside.

Okay is better but it's far from the river side, the pool is small also and breakfast was not the best but at least you've got a big room and the staff is professional.

I almost always email a hotel directly and inquire about any policies they have regarding guests. I ask a direct question and get direct answers.

    Secrets Bar.

I can only provide a small bit of info I've read on another board. Drinks are among the highest among the RLD bars in PP. Not all females can be barfined. If wearing a red costume, they are supposedly available. If wearing white, probably not available for take out. You might want to check out this facebook page where Secrets and other bars advertise and you can read comments by punters. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1062695980532551/.

Coincidentally, I'll be staying on Street 136 (Lux Riverside Hotel) in May for 3 weeks. I hope I (and my wallet) survive. LOL.

    Sihanoukville.

Unless you speak Mandarin and don't mind staying in a giant construction site you would be mad to go to Sihanoukville.

Price range hovers between $20 a room night to $100 a room night. Use Agoda or Booking to check out the hotels for pics, room size, amenities, etc. Book online.

Top recommendations would be Lux Riverside, Point Boutique, Harmony, Ohana PP, Quay Boutique, Amanjaya Pancam, Sun Moon, Grand Mekong etc.

If you like gambling stay at Nagaworld, they have a pick up nightclub too.

Couldn't be more convenient unless there was a bar in the lobby. Rates from about $45 and up. Several different options for a room. Can book using the hotel website or through the popular online booking agencies. I'm booked there for the 5th time next month--for 3 weeks.

The info provided by other board members is all correct.

After doing the BKK and Pats scene for over 40 years, PP has become my new playground for a lot of reasons. I hope you enjoy the difference--and it IS different. (Well, "same, same but different).

    Khmer new year.

Does anyone has an idea how Phnom Penh bar scene will be during the Khmer new year? Anyone has been to Phnom Penh in that time period? Should I stay in Phnome Penh or go to Sinhanoukvill during that time for mongering? Do bars stay open?

I would really appreciate the response from seniors and Phenom Penh experienced one and all. Thanks.

    Yes, very true Cucumber.

I too experienced this may a times. Initially I thought they may not have liked me but slowly I understood it's way of there doing business.

They give lot of excuses. Busy, No time, Menstruation period, USD 200 , have to go Home early blah blah. Then they would say take my friend - so clearly bait and switch strategy.
