Long-time lurker, first report.

Had my first taste of the Amsterdam Red Light District last year and wanted to come back. Bottom line: bring euros. Lots of euros. No cheap sex here, at least after dark in the main canal area. Almost better to think of it as a big party with a side order of peep show. Also if you like to bar-hop, this is a great place.

I paid for two nights in an AirBNB within the RLD itself. Amsterdam is not cheap. I knew this going in, but wanted the experience of overnighting in the RLD. Having done it once, I don't need to do it again. If you want to tour Amsterdam, recommend looking for AirBNBs in Zaandam or even Utrecht.

By day the RLD is much like the rest of Amsterdam. Fewer girls work in the windows, the crowds are much thinner, and the clink of glasses in the bars isn't so loud. The carillon in de Oude Kerk (The Old Church) can make you think you're somewhere else other than in a bawdy district.
