Just got back from a 5 day trip to Minsk. I was a reluctant traveller. I was torn between Kiev (well known with established contacts) vs Minsk (first time). A friend and I talked ourselves into going. I went with low expectations with a back up plan to bail and go to Kiev if I stuck out after a day or two. Glad I went.

General notes. Food is fantastic. City centre is charming. Clubs and bars are cool. Music and vibe is good. Loads of beautiful women, students and professionals in their twenties. Hotels are nice. (Hotel Minsk 3 star, $90/ day X1 , Hotel Europe is 4 star at $150 a night and Double tree for rest of the time (DT is $300 plus a night for a river view suite and but one of the best 5 star hotels I have stayed in Europe both for decor and service). All hotels are girl friendly. No questions before 11 PM. Passport and registration is required after 11 PM. They are very strict about this.

Generally people are OK and I found Kiev to be more warm and bit more friendly but the difference is not striking.

Sorry but my advice would be to not to reply to Hicham666 nor Zurich Banker. They are both almost zero posts and probably corrupt police or Minsk taxi drivers. 2 Minsk taxi drivers were recently caught robbing a high end escort. I have cancelled plans to visit again. Minsk police are there own worst enemy. It's just difficult to difficult to know who to trust in a Police state. Cheers Nickc.
