I agree with you GQ, that it sometimes might not seem to be good to argue over small amounts of change. However my personal experience (and what I have observed) has taught me over the years that Tijuana residents look at gringos differently than our peers and service personnel in the United States about issues like negotiation and getting back change. In the States addressing the 'small things' are more likely to have you viewed upon as being stingy, petty, and ridiculously cheap. But expressing those same concerns in Tijuana are more likely to get you being viewed as being strong or smart. Sure chicas have called me cheap (coto) a few times during negotiations, but the ones that do have likely been trained or exposed to understand American cultural differences.

I agree that getting enough small peso notes when visiting Tijuana can sometimes be a challenge. The techniques I use are as follows:.

For the most part I agree with you SMD on the getting back change topic. Is a complicated subject. One time at AB I asked the DJ guy for two Spanish songs which was 6 bucks for both. Time went on and he didn't put my songs. My buddies were getting restless and wanted to leave. So I go to the current mic big guy and tell him that dude hasn't put any of my songs and I'm leaving. He goes over there, gives me my money back, and apologizes. Ever since then mic guy has shaken my hand when he sees me. I see it like a form of respect that I stood up.

The more complicated part is when chicas are involved. Like I said chicas have helped me get my change back from the front desk people. I think part of the reason they do it is cause a deal is a deal. Same reason I wanted my money back in the AB example. But yeah some are quick to call you stingy cause you didn't give them enough or a tip. Chicas want to do this thing where they want to guilt you into giving them more. Around 8:30 pm I ran across Melissa. A a bit later I saw Britney by the west end of the alley. Britney is now staying with Jamie. Jamie is not working since she has trust fund. Kept on walking to see if any other good SW's / SG's wound turn up, but none of them did. Finally decided to go with Britney for a good BBJ / facial.

I get most of my pesos at ATMs using a Charles Schwab debit card. Instead of requesting 7,000 pesos or 10,000 pesos, I typically request 6,950, or 6,970 or 9,950 peso withdrawals. I buy from the busy taco stands with 200 peso notes, even 500 peso notes at the big cart near HK. I always get back change at the sit-down restaurants (which I am a regular at. Mostly Chinese food places). It is also not unusual for me to go to a number of cambio exchanges in Tijuana and exchange one $10 bill at a time into pesos.

If this is the one-story Street Girl hotel on the west end of the alley (near Nino Heroes) on the North sidewalk, the name of that hotel I think is Cuartos Venicia.

As far as the other Street Girl hotel that took 100 pesos. ,. If it is the hotel directly above La Gloria's (corner) Bar, I believe it is called Hotel Garcia. It's to your advantage there to pay for the hotel room in small peso notes. I don't know if their regular rates now are 100 pesos or less since I haven't been there for like 6 or 7 years. But back when I last used their rooms it was less than 100 pesos. A gringo wanting change back from the old-man hotel clerk, faced a frustrating process.

Way back then, and even more recently, the other SG hotel with a bad reputation for ripping off gringos concerning their regular S / T hotel rates, was the previously mentioned Cuartos Venicia. For a number of years their S / T rates for knowing locals was 30 pesos. But gringos using that hotel in the daytime were charged an "especial DIA" rate of 50 pesos. They also had a special "noche" rate for their rico guests, which fluctuated wildly, possible based on how well-dressed you were.

My mistake was forgetting how much Alexa said it was for Hotel Garcia. She said she told me it was 100 pesos. And I think she's the telling the truth because that could've instinctively made me ask her to lower her price which she did. I said on my report that I don't remember paying this much cause she's the third chica I pick out of this hotel this year and I didn't pay 100. I do ask for small notes when I get pesos. But is tough sometimes cause it seems they know what you're up to and don't want to cooperate. The other guys here are saying is 90 pesos so that puts me in a predicament. The tall old front desk guy at Cuartos Venicia has been pretty honest in my dealings with him. He always gives me change. Although he hesitated a bit when I gave him a 50 note recently. This hotel, Ibiza, Cascadas, and Eduardo have been the only ones who have never pulled the I'll give you your change after your session. All the other ones have if I remember correctly. And only the front desk ladies at Hotel Mini and El Legado have conveniently disappeared. Good thing is only been 10 or 20 pesos each. Chicas have bailed me out cause they accompany me while I wait for my change. And they've even asked the front desk people for my change when it appears they have no idea why I'm waiting. Some aren't my friends so I appreciate their help too. The rate for Cuartos Venicia is 30 for 20 minutes and 50 for 30 minutes I believe. The vibe the tall old guy from Cuartos Venicia does give me is PLM. Maybe I'm wrong but it could help explain the rip off reports.

Note to self always have exact change if you find yourself having to use that shitty hotel. And another note they don't run a tight ship over there so it is not that hard to convince a girl on the La Gloria wall to come to your room or another place without her being penalized by her hotel.

I've had the same experience. Had to yell at the desk guy before he apologize and handed me the change. And yes. Most of the chicas there went with me to Cascadas. On the other hand, there is almost never a knock, so it's up the the chica to time you.
