Who cares, I have been fucking girls for over 25 years with condom or condomless. I haven't gotten tested for STDs and HIV since I became window in 1992. I am now suffering from MS that has nothing to do with sex.

A thousand BBBJs, and maybe (just maybe) caught Chlamydia from that once, but cannot be 100% sure. Regularly catch airborne viruses after long flights. So I should give up flying to other countries. Yes I know the comparison is not fair. There are always risks in life, and somebody had to get unlucky sometime.

He doesn't know how he contracted syphilis, sometimes it's very strange because some people test positive without having typical symptoms and other people test negative with typical symptoms (painless ulcer, palm and sole rash).

He had a bad experience but I am still wondering if syphilis is the cause because many treponemal bacterias or other bacterias may cause false positive, another example, A reactive CSF-VDRL test that cannot be attributed to another cause, means you have neurosyphilis. Maybe he could catch relapsing fever, there are some strains that are resistant in Thailand. Relapsing fever cause mild fever for many months and may also cause rash and blindness and stroke like symptoms. The problem with relapsing fever is like lyme disease, you may test positive for syphilis without having syphilis.

Anyway, you are not in his situation, so you will never understand him, He is scared because of his bad experience. It's like you with so called chlamydia in your eye or me because I still have fear of tuberculosis, fear is your worst enemy., now you are scraed to put your finger in a pussy and touch your eye and I am scared not to put a mask when I go to some areas in Brazil or in other countries where TB is common, I have a big phobia for TB. He should get tested for all bacterial diseases, he must understand. His experience is very bad, I don't wish it for anybody. Maybe he did not have syphilis but he was sick and lost 90 per cent of vision because of a fucking bacteria. No matter what bacteria, the damages can't be reversed. His doctor did a bad job, because he had trouble with ocular problems and had stroke like symptoms because of a bacteria or syphilis, he just gave him one shot of injection and said to come back in 3 weeks. I am very conservative , if I see csf wbc not normal because of a infectious disease caused by a bacteria or ocular problems caused by syphilis, I will give several shots of antibiotics until I have the right diagnosis. antibiotics can cure many bacterials diseases so no need to wait for the right diagnosis. CSF is very different for tuberculosis. but syphilis lyme disease and many other bacterial diseases have the same result of csf. PS I am not neurologist but when someone is supected to have a bacterial disease, he is refered to infectios disease doctor ASAP.

The first one is a treponemal test, It will stay positive, it's important you check your vdrl csf after treatment when you see the doctor. You can keep mongering, maybe you should monger in some places where they test women, in Brazil, there are many termas where women get screened every month, maybe in thailand. Hope you will feel better, thank you for sharing your experience. Keep mongering and don't be scared, get screened for your peace of mind when you come back from vacation. You are now partially immune to syphilis.

Will you keep mongering? I would say, keep mongering and keep testing for syphilis when you come back from Thailand. Keep following up. Don't let that bad experience keeping from living.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 10 years ago, they did not test me for STDs or HIV, I was only offered physical exams, MRI and evoked potentials. I have weakness in my arms. I was not offered lumbar puncture and blood tests for other medical conditions. They confirmed my diagnosis (no further test). I am still suffering.

He said the damage was already done by the time I was diagnosed with Syphilis. Had I been treated earlier there was a good chance the vision would return. I have not tested positive again and I have been tested at 30 days, 90 days, 180 days and soon to test again 1 year after the completion of the continuous drip.

Your case is very rare, you are straight, you use condom for any vaginal sex, you never practice anal sex, you, you don't use prep, you don't use illicit drug.

Now you have to follow your doctor, 3 months, 6months, one year.

It's a good idea to get tested for syphilis and consult an dermatolovenerologist if you caught symptomatic std or non sexual ulcers devlopped without reason on your penis, I agree with you syphilis can cause ocular diseases, most of ocular syphilis and syphilis meningitis are caused in the early stage. Tertiary stage is very rare in untreated people. Syphilis is the easiest sexual disease to cure with antibiotics. It's easier to cure in the early stages than gonorrhea. But untreated, it may cause more harm than gonorrhea. Many people with primary syphilis cure without developing serology scarring. If you are treated in the primary stage and your initial test is negative and you get treated ASAP, you will be cured without having serology scarring because your body did not build immunity. There are only 400 cases of neurosyphilis in the USA. 140 are asymptomatic. Most of them happen in MSM with HIV followed by MSM without hiv. Neurosyphilis is very rare, many neurologists have never seen neurosyphilis in their carreer. You get tested for syphilis, you have to get tested for every disease because we are exposed to many diseases everyday. My advise, Get tested for syphilis but think to get tested for liver disease and many other conditions. It's good to be cured of syphilis but it's very bad to be misdiagnosed for syphilis because of many medical conditions that may trigger the tests. There are many different tests for syphilis because it is not easy to diagnose, the test must be performed by an expert. I don't advise people over 60 to use tpha test but I advise them to use FTA-ABS for confirmation though it may be false positive because of many medical conditions, that's why it is important to rule out many things. TPHA may be fale positive because of non pathogenic treponema. Older people have higher non pathogenic treponema in their body. If you have ever had syphilis, you are no more eligible to give blood, plasma or your sperm in the UK and Europe but you are eligible to give blood, plasma and your sperm in the USA and Canada and other countries that don't follow WHO policy if you were treated for syphilis 12 months ago. I am dermatovenerologist but focus on infectious diseases. I studied general medicine, dermatovenerology and infectology. I am not an expert at non-infectious diseases. I don't pretend to know everything in the medicine but I have a basic knowledge of non infectious medical conditions. There are doctors that know better than I do when it comes to other medical conditions and pathologies. My advise is to see the right doctors when you see something that's not normal in your body and stay away from Dr Google and Dr Youtube or online forum. If symptoms worsen or don't improve after few weeks , you should consult.

He had genital herpes, it has nothing to do with syphilis. As enjoylife stated, you don't need std tests to diagnose neurosyphilis. Lumbar puncture helps to rule out inflamatory and infectious diseases. If infectious diseases is suspected, more blood tests to find the right infectious disease will be performed. Many bacterial and viral diseases cause stroke like symptoms. False positive is common in syphilis diagnosis. Because many bacterial diseases may cause false positive, cross reactivity.
