Doing a study of cheap hookers in this area, before heading to the islands.

Arrived from Australia yesterday morning in no real condition to do anything. But dragged myself around for a look anyway.

Started down the alley that runs parallel to kolonu? St. (from the fallen a aviators monument).

I have health issues and decided not to climb any stairs.

Its an upscale hotel too. Very convenient for Fylis RLD and a little further from Metaxourgeio. Be extremely careful if you decide to visit Metaxourgeio RLD area. This is probably the most downgraded area in Athens. Especially during night could be very dangerous. At day you will be OK. Have fun.

Although you are right Metaxoyrgeio is the most downgraded area of Athens and it seams intimidating and dangerous, in reality the chances something happening to you are almost zero even at night. Personally would not recommend any tourist going there. Filis is much better.

I do agree it seems more difficult in Greece (in my opinion), I've been to places like Tijuana, Cuba, Guatemala and other really poor cities and it's definitely not the same. Walking the streets of Zona Norte in Tijuana is an unreal experience, drugs, corrupted cops (they work with criminals), crime in plain sight (I've been a victim of local cops trying to get money). First things first. My intention is not to antagonize but to post a healthy comment, having said that, I am sure ninety-nine percent of people here are into P4P, I. You talk about irrelevant things and personal impressions, IE vibrant night life, economic boom, crumbling bldgs, etc. Greece is still one of the OECD nations. In terms of GDP, Greece is at the lowest level among developed nations, while Thailand is a typical developing country.

Athens is more like a 3rd world country nowadays compared with Bangkok. Half the commercial buildings in athens are derelict and abandoned so where are the jobs coming from and where are the jobless youth going to work? An almighty great fukupp joining the euro too early has left the capital in ruins and in debt to the EU for 50 years. And they can't go back to the drama. Bangkok has boomed over the last 25 years with condos and shopping malls sprouting all over town and companies can't fill job vacancies and there's a vibrant nightlife. Greece WAS an advanced country you mean but now is in deep sh1 t for decades and the corrupt greek politicians will ensure it stays in a mess and in debt to the EU. And apart from the derelict commercial buildings there's lots of crumbling buildings all over central Athens that can't be rebuilt due to outdated laws. They borrowed too much from the EU and keep needing bailouts to stay afloat so I wonder where young people in Athens will work in future to avoid prostitution?
