Many is the time when I will get to the part of our first conversation about my requirement to go bareback if we are going to engage in FS, mention my vasectomy and mention that I have a recent blood check document to show if she wants to see it. This being the safe sex board I think I could be forgiven for giving a little of my history for comparison sake. I started mongering in the early seventies when I first started working. For many years I was stationed in a Caribbean island. At that time condom full sex in the p4p world was non-existent. Back then I would get an std on average once a month. At first It would be treated by a doctor administering an injection. Some years later doctors started administering oral antibiotics and subsequently just giving prescriptions for the required treatment. It came to such that I would photocopy a doctor's prescription and take it to the pharmacy each time I became infected to cut out the middle man so to speak. When HIV began proliferating I was unperturbed as it was regarded back then as a gay disease.

My indulgence in BBFS occurred throughout the seventies and eighties. Then something happened. Magic Johnson got AIDS. That scared the shit out of me. I immediately got an AIDS test, it was the first STD test that I ever got in my life (1991). I would never forget the wait for the results, I was never so overwrought in my life. Thanks for the story. Actually, HIV/AIDS is regarded as more of a gay disease now than it was in the past, especially those early years. Transmission to a man via sex and not via needles, that is. The overwhelming empirical evidence of the past 40+ years leaves little room to conclude otherwise.

Did you notice when MongerForSex dismissed it as a heterosexual disease in part because of the "test" conducted in San Francisco? Its unlikely you went there purely for Syphilis test, right? Therefore I wonder if the follow up test is for Syphilis or more likely for HIV..

Yes, that is true. I don't believe I have ever had them say it specifically, but it is probably about a follow up call on the HIV test part of it.

When the counselor gives you the test results document, he or she always points out a form stating they will be doing further tests on your blood in the next week or two and will call you if they arrive at a different result. I have never gotten that call so I don't know what procedure they have done to conduct further testing. Is it possible that is when they do the RPR test and do the Treponemal test while you're waiting at the clinic for the sake of expediency?

They only use one test, if it's positive you should have another blood test. I don't really trust Elisa treponemal tests. I prefer FTA. ABS and TPPA. I never use EIA or CMIA. Sensivity is not good, many people get tested positive without having the disease. Today, it's not good because some of labs use EIA or CMIA first and RPR for confirmation. In the past, all labs, use vdrl or rpr first and for confirmation TPPA or FTA. ABS. For example if it's positive for EIA and rpr, no further test. Thousands of people were misdiagnosed as having syphilis witout having the disease. I always advise people that don't agree with the results to see another doctor to see if there is another medical condition that triggers syphilis test. Many vergin people tested positive for syphilis without having the disease and their parent are syphilis negative.
