Yeah I think newcomers will enjoy Patong but from my first visit 2008 it really has turned into a big night club street removing the social aspect of sois filled with bars. There is still plenty of bars but really empty during high and low season if you explore inwards. To my own disliking it also has become some kind of loudness competition between some places sound systems which reminds me of southern Europe.

In saying that, appears crowds are down in both high and low season. Sure less crowds sounds great, but that means Thais have also returned to Isaan, so less bar girls working as well.

The BHT parity to AUD does not help much either. Compared to Mar 18, its a 25%;cost increase to me on exchange rate. If I don't enjoy this trip, I'll start switching to BKK or Vietnam.
