Well plans changed and I ended up in Bangkok four days sooner and later in the day. Flight and immigration was smooth and uneventful. For a first trip book your hotel in advance so you have a place to go when you arrive in BKK. You knew to book near the BTS, Sukhumvit, Nana, and Soi Cowboy, but you wound up in another area I believe. There is a scam at tourist sites where a man or woman will tell you the site is closed but they can show you someplace else. This is a scam they use on unsuspecting tourists and the site is likely open. Happened to me at the Grand Palace. My best guess is the trains from the airport to BKK city were working when you were there and the lady grabbed you to make a commission for herself.
