Has anyone flown VivaAerobus/other airline between MTY and TIJ? Do you know if since it's Mex interior and Mex border turf if they require US citizens to purchase the 550p tourist permit in either direction?

My only VivaAerobus flight was Toluca-Monterrey both interior and nobody asked me for the permit.

If you are traveling by air exclusively within Mexico, you are required by law to purchase a 180 day FMM visa. Doesn't matter which airline you are flying. Airline ticket agents do NOT ask to see your FMM. Whether you will be asked to show your FMM by Customs agents at the airports you travel through solely depends on whether you appear Mexican or not. If you are an obvious non-Mexican, the chances you will be asked to show your FMM are extremely high. I've departed and landed maybe 15 times in Mexican airports and I've been asked by Mexican Customs agents to show my FMM every single time. They don't appear to stop Mexican-looking travelers asking to see their FMM. If you look Mexican, I suppose you can take your chances and not buy the 180 day FMM. But if you're asked to show yours, it will be a problem. Under extreme circumstances you could be deported. Or at the very least delayed to the point you could miss your connecting flight. All because you wanted to save $28 usd. Not worth it if you ask me. Just pay the fee and travel worry-free.

If you are traveling outside of Mexico on a foreign passport, you ABSOLUTELY must have a 180 day FMM on you. On international flights, at the gate a Customs agent checks all passports and foreign travelers are required to surrender their 180 day FMM upon boarding. If you do not have it, you will be in some trouble. If you fly from a foreign country to Mexico, the cost of the 180 day FMM is built into the cost of the ticket and you will be issued one upon landing in Mexico.

They do check your passport at the counter so either your PP# is tied to a permiso or you pay for it in the price of the ticket. I even offered to show it to one of the Volaris agents but they didn't need to see it. Must be done automatically some how.

It's because airline ticketing agents have nothing to with customs and immigration. They check your passport for ID purposes and to make sure foreigners are carrying their passports as required by law. Your passport number is not tied to your FMM. Ticket agents aren't concerned and don't know whether you have an FMM or not.

I fly to Mexico city almost every month, I've flown to other states as well. You can get the visa when you cross with no charge as long as it is less than 7 days. After that you can roam freely. The only time you will need that Visa is when you fly into the states. Happen to me once when flying with volaris, had about 30 minutes before boarding, ran out the airport, had to pay a 550 mxn fee, barely made it on time. Nonetheless, I have never been asked for the Visa beside that one time inside of Mexico.

The free 7 day FMM is only good for land travel. You cannot fly on a 7 day FMM. If you fly you are required to purchase a 180 day FMM.

I have only been to a couple of them and over Christmas will be in Asia again so will check out the one in Patong / Thailand. What was funny when I was planning a trip with a lady travel buddy who wanted to go to Thailand and I was trying to get her to go to Phi Phi islands. She wanted to go to Patong beach area instead which wasn't high on my list compared to the Phi Phi islands but since the famous red light district was there she didn't have to push the idea very hard before I thought. YEA. We can stay in Patong.

I've been to.

1. Amsterdam.

2. Las Vegas.

3. Barcelona.

4. Zona norte.

Thailand is top on my list to review next. Right now zona norte is the top for me, but it does have a few downsides.

Amsterdam was fine but the service can be highly variable, but 50 euros is not a bad price. I never liked window shopping vs club action like in the zona. But the city itself is much more fun.

Las Vegas the rectory agencies are fun and high quality but expensive. I heard the Latin houses in Vegas are great but they are a little hard to find. Have not tried the AMPS believe it or not.

Barcelona sucks for red light action. Las Ramblas had few SW vs zona and very low quality. There are sex clubs too but the girls are low quality and the price is like 200 euros.

Yeah, that list is super weak. No mention of Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, or even Pattaya which is the biggest P4P scene I know of w several hundred girlie bars. Patpong in BKK is fun but very small compared to the previously mentioned BKK P4P scenes. If you're going to Phuket's Patong tourist area there is Bangla Road which has a vibrant P4P scene albeit a snake's den of hustling BGs. Still you will get the full Thai bar scene experience. Pattaya and BKK P4P scenes are more user friendly though. In Patong they have daily snorkeling tours of all the islands like Phi Phi etc. If you like beaches Karon Beach is awesome and only a few miles from Patong. Have fun.

I live in Pattaya, Thailand. I can tell you that Phuket sux for mongering. Bangla Road is overrun with ladyboys and the discos that you used to get freelancers in are overrun with normal tourists. It is also expensive as everything else is there in order to gouge tourists. See Phuket thread in the Thailand section.

I fly out of Tijuana often but always have my permiso when I cross. They do check your passport at the counter so either your PP# is tied to a permiso or you pay for it in the price of the ticket. I even offered to show it to one of the Volaris agents but they didn't need to see it. Must be done automatically some how.

Being an interior flight, it's not likely that you'll be asked. However, the possibility exists as you're using a foreign passport for ID. The question is why does everybody want to flout a simple requirement? Technically, all foreigners are required to have a FMM in their possession. If you're only going to be in country 7 days or less it's free. Otherwise it's 550 MXN for 180 days. Why invite a potential problem by cheapskating on $30?

Thanks KC, that helps with a lot of the terminology I wasn't getting being new to the forum. Just to note as well, there are different size booths for the lap dances. One room is big enough for 4 really. Give the "mesero" (guy who lets you in) a few extra bucks for a few extra minutes. Of course tip your regular waiters but I just wanted to differentiate the waiter from the guy who manages the time at the lap dance door as they are two different people. No chairs in there that I have seen, just booths which are soft so it's a pleasure for a unique experience. Think your right though that you can do the "interview" with a drink and learn a lot about what your experience maybe like if you take her upstairs.

The VIP rooms are not tied to the VIP card, which is another point of confusion, lol.

I agree that a lap dance downstairs is a good way to assess if a girl will be worth taking upstairs, but I just do the interview in the booth. I don't pay for a formal "lap dance".
