Kiev is the one place it's better to carry crisp 100 dollar bills and change them over to local currency. In every other destination I use ATMs with Schwab card but here the ATMs are only paying 2176 per dollar while all the currency exchanges on K street are paying 2480 to 2505 per dollar. The ATMs ask if you are willing to accept 2176 so that's why I know the rate they pay. One agency I used said it was my choice to pay 2400 hryvnias or 100 dollars. So it's better to change the 100 and pay with hryvnias.

I fully realize that many of us mongers cannot stay in Kiev that long, away from their main residence. But it is difficult to succeed in Kiev without having feet on the ground frequently or for long periods of time. And surprisingly the longer I stay, the less I spend.

I spent less in all categories: total for the duration of stay, per average day, and per capita, that is per each girl.
