I am thinking about Hotel Kong since it has four casas on the same block.

    Thanks.
Ayenda 1235 Botero Hotel. Steps from Botero Plaza, Yakuza casa just across the street, most of El Centro's casas within walking distance.

Please check Wolf662's perfect report (Hotel Botero Medellin was the old name) for details:

I have a Pixel and am thinking of upgrading and that is when I would switch.
Their Magenta (or Magenta Plus) plan offers free 2 G / EDGE data when traveling with no roaming charges. It's fairly speedy and works fine for Uber and WhatsApp.

    Unlocked or Not?

    Is your other phone unlocked?

If it is just get another sim card.

I do use Whatsapp, you are right that most americans do not know about whatsapp.

Whatever country you go to Buy their sim card.

I spent 3 months in Buenos Aires and paid maybe US $40. You can call home, text, send photos, etc. For no extra charges.

    Also use WhatsApp, it's free.
Most Americans are not smart enough to use it.

    Hotels

I like to stay in Laurles and you can take the metro or Uber to the Casa during the day and still walk around La 70 at night to eat or have a drink. I have never stayed in Centro but if you seach the Medellin tread lots of people recommend Hotel Botero (I think).

    Trannies and knives

Many reports warn of street trannies carrying knives. Is this to do with them just wanting to defend themselves or do they also attack?

Is it worth trying to get them on side such as by giving them a small tip for giving directions or something, just in case they would help you out if someone attacks you?

    The other side of Facebook

Having a connection with lots of girls, whether through Facebook or WhatsApp, means you'll eventually get a request for money. How you deal with the request is up to you. However, if you send money 1 time, you can bet the same girl will soon be asking again.

Yesterday I saw a girl had posted asking who has PayPal. In the past 2 weeks I've seen a few offering to sell pictures and videos. This morning I saw the 2 posts in the photo. Now, instead of personal requests for money some girls are going the wholesale route. You can almost guarantee someone will come to the rescue.

It will work for a few girls, for awhile, but I doubt if there's enough of a response to take many girls off the market for long.

A quarter point cut from the US Fed today and only lost 12 pesos to the dollar. If there are no more cuts from the fed, we might see 3500 next September. Oil.

Meta and Tolima are generally fine, except for southwestern Meta and southeastern Tolima. You can also still go to Cao Cristales if you fly in and out. Antioquia is also totally fine excluding the coastal areas like Turbo and Necoclí.

    Worrisome.

I am currently in Cucuta now. This is quite disturbing to me, as I was planning to take a bus from Cucuta to bucaramanga and stop in Pamplona along the way. Is this sufficient cause to change my plans? Either the destination or the mode of transport? Any advice?

Sorry, I actually thought it was supposed to be a comical / spoof post. It seemed like the list a hysterical mother would say to a kid before they departed for summer camp. I wasn't trying to dis you. I honestly thought it was a joke post and wanted to help it along. With regards to FARC, my principal objection to them (as I previously said about Sendero) is that they have no coherent ideology. They are simply nihilists.

I am a a weak, old man now, and was never brave even when I was young (especially at night). I am a Spanish speaker, and did have the misfortune of working abroad for our government for eight years in the 70's, often in troubled areas. I've met many of the type (broke / deluded / desperate...and with guns!) and ran over one of them once with my Land Rover.

So, I wasn't trying to p!ss you off, or doubt you or anything. I agree, there are a lot of dangers out there and, personally, I don't want to go anywhere where I might get beat up, robbed, arrested or killed. Point is, I obviously don't want to go to Yemen, Libya or the more remote regions of Norte de Santander or Boyaca (I have been gratified to read that the Federal Police seem to be working on busting some of the douchebags: https://www.eltiempo.com/colombia/ot...ntander-407284).

I was interested in going to Cucuta this fall, but am less likely to do so now. Less because of a potential resurgence of FARC and more because of reports like Kazeu's:
