I am sure the workplace trainee at the front desk took it very seriously.

You know it's the Philippines right? You really do not want to ask too many questions or dig too deep on safety.

Try asking how many people have CPR experience? First aid? Basic supplies? Etc etc. The place exists on complacency and ignorance.

You did the right thing to get yourself out of the building.

Marco Polo and the 6.5 Earthquake on 31/10

I was back in Davao last week, and after a few days in Cebu, I was back at the Marco Polo. I always raise a glass to DS, despite never meeting him.

What was more concerning was the 6. 5 quake that morning, as we were on the 15th Floor, the building shaked a lot, with a lot of swaying.

My GF who lives in Davao, was very scared, I was not.

We relaxed a bit, and then I looked out of the window, to see that the Security Guards had locked down access to the hotel, and with a few more light wobbles I decided to evacuate down the stairs.

What followed is a completely unacceptable discovery that the Earthquake response at the MP, failed in potentially very serious ways.

There was no Alarm, there was no Voice Evacuation message, there was no phone call to the room. There should have been.

I had a couple of conversations with the Front Desk over this, and to be honest, I probably would not return to the MP, they failed in their duty to alert guests in my view.

Also, as an aside, there was a Siren test at the resort we stayed at in Cebu. We were outside at the pool when the test was supposed to occur, never heard that also.

There have been quite a few significant quakes in Davao recently. Perhaps signs the Volcano may be waking.

Happily my wine bottles survived intact, though, since the electricity died immediately as the electric transformer blew within seconds of the start of the quake, my ability to keep the wines at the appropriate temperature has suffered. I'm worried about a couple of the Margaux.

Apologies for the lack of culture and class here GE. Charlie's here only know about 2 buck Chuck and Red Horse. Meanwhile they will rail about Filipina's lack of culture and intelligence.

Hope you will enjoy your stock of Margaux.

    Thanks for Advice

Thanks for the advice about Davao maybe I wll get her to leave me in Bohol so I can go diving. The diving looks like ot sucks in Davao, now on that note her home is a 10 hour drive from Davao in Zomboanga Sibugay, as for the charges wow guys if that was the case half my inlaws would be in jail. As for the being armed I know some of the laws and it could be rough but if I went to her province it would be with my wife her Brother and all registered in his name. Funny story though the last time we went there we went through some army check points, at every last one I showed my ID and they all pulled me out and we started going over there weapons inside out of view I am in my countrys army. It was dicey the last time we went a year before Marawi and I got some looks I remember from some Afghans. But yeah maybe I will look at Bohol and say ok when are you going to be back and meet her in Cebu.

Agreed. To be clear (er) any one getting into and remaining in a situation that warrants deadly weapons anywhere in Asia is incredibly foolish (I'm being polite &#128513.

Pongo has done the right thing by avoiding the situation all together.

    Enjoy. G.
