Making a run to Manila next week and sending out a few feelers. Have to say the majority of the quotes I'm getting are past the high side and bordering on the Ludacris. Yes I'm starting on the low side offering 2 k to 3 k and I'm getting shot down pretty quickly. But it's just fishing, not every cast will hook a fish. The lastest shot down my offer and then within seconds was trying to negotiate her deal on her terms. I quickly said sorry, I take the first answer given. I've got no problem spending more, I do have a problem offering a high amount to a photo or two.

Things will change when your boots (sandals) are on the ground there. Girls make a hard distinction between "I'm coming there" (time distance to arrival irrelevant) and "I am here now". Prices might drop upon arrival, and then drastically during negotiations.

Had a short 4 day trip to manila and had some free time to monger. There were some rains during the evening which made it hard. Was staying in Sheraton near the airport, staff had no problems bringing back girls to the room. Day 1 went to LA cafe. DAY 4 - Had a plan to meet another one from a dating site but she was not able to make it, so tried various go go bars. Lot of girls there on avg they were asking for 3. 5 to 4 k ST and there was entrance fee around 300 to 500 peso, and lady drink around 750 peso.

Yes, to my point. Qualifying HSBC Premiere account at p3 million = $60,000 USD. Compare that to the Schwab 2-account system with a minimum deposit of $200 USD. Same result, you get fee-free ATM access anywhere (well, they rebate back your account any ATM fees at the end of each month).

Difficult for a Canadian not resident in the USA to open bank account there.

I tried, not Schwab but many banks in Kansas City. Only place I could open a US account was in Grand Forks ND. I needed it because my US employer in Afghanistan would only make deposits directly to a US account.

The best exchange rate I ever got in Manila was 1. 5 k for ST deposit.

Correct, I don't have my initial premier account in PI. And from what I remember, in PI minimum is 4 m Pesos.

This is going a long way (millions of pesos) to get fee-free ATM access. I will stick to my Schwab brokerage account, where $200 (p10 k) was all it took.

On a similar note, CITI Bank offers a credit card that does not charge any Foreign Transaction Fees.

Correct and I have had 3 accounts open in different countries.

For a normal HSBC account (not Premier) the minimum monthly balance is PHP 100 k BPI BDO Metro much easier.

Get a HSBC Premier account and the fees are waived. Or an additional BDO account. BDO is everywhere.

ME: You are probably right. I opened mine several years ago, online was probably available. I just followed the steps given to me in PM here at the time, did it all by mailing the multi-page application. Have linked that account to my regular bank account for xfers. Works beautifully. While BDO is in many places, the Schwab card works anywhere the Visa symbol is displayed, no need to find any given bank's machine.

Unfortunately HSBC ATM not as common everywhere and nonexistent outside of Manila, Cebu and Davao.

Just paid 250 p fee to take out 10 k p from a non HSBC bank in Bohol. Not excessive to some others I have seen.

Get a HSBC Premier account and the fees are waived. Or an additional BDO account. BDO is everywhere.
