On a more serious note, the woefully naïve mongers I run into here are not "stupid" per se, but hopelessly ingenuous. For many, it's their first real trip outside of the US / Canada / Europe and they become smitten quickly to sweet young things, without understanding the implicit rules. I've also found that it's pointless, even with the best of intentions, to try to explain the rules to them. The response is invariably some variation of: "I know, but my girl is different. " I don't even bother any longer to raise a red flag when I witness the early stages of what I know will ultimately probe to be a train wreck. These guys hear, but they simply refuse to listen. I've simply stopped going to the places where they hang out.

If I were making a first trip here, and my primary intent was to monger, I'the likely avoid Mindanao altogether. I love living in Davao, and I like CDO, but I'm old and I know the rules. There are easily-found treasures it's true in both cities, but both are less in-your-face than Manila, Angeles or even Cebu. The only major advantage would be that the experience is likely to be somewhat cheaper per transaction and the women a bit less jaded. For those with sufficient experience and who grow bored with Luzon and / or Cebu, then it's worth coming, as both Davao and CDO are friendly, safe places with some decent touristy stuff to engage you for a few days, and both offer ample opportunities to monger.
