I'm interested in going to Madagascar early to mid 2020. I am fascinated by the world of free & easy GFE, and cheap beach housing, and interesting things to photograph.

What I'd like to address is the contradiction of this place. It seems easy: The girls will say Bonjour if they fancy you, you look at them and if they fancy you back you say likewise. And then you lead them to your room and slip them somewhere between 30-50 k MGA. Which is, in United States Dollars, approximately nothing. That sounds almost as straightforward and easy as, say, Angeles in the Philippines except with less of a blatant pay-for-sex atmosphere. Yes, you have to pay but it's softer in feel.

Now, I am a soft western guy who likes his creature comforts. But if I am understanding correctly, there is one place where they exist: Nosy Be. If I go to Nosy Be, I might not get as perfect a GFE as some of the other places, but I would have reasonably civilized infrastructure, nice albeit expensive hotels, more or less functioning WiFi, etc. (I am in Mexico right now and I survived two days of non-functioning WiFi, although I would have rather not.).

So I go to Nosy Be, I find a cheap hotel right on the beach, and I enjoy my daily swim. I have our friend Google for translation services. As long as I have WiFi and the swim I am content. If I have girls that's the cherry on top. And it seems like girls should be plentiful and willing.

I do not have a lot of money. My budget would be gone in seconds in the French Riviera. But I have maybe 2-3 times what others are reporting spending. If I lose 30-40 k MGA a few times to scams it's not going to hurt me.

So: What do you guys think of my "soft western approach to Madagascar"? On paper it doesn't sound that much different from Angeles, but many posts in this forum say it's considerably more difficult than Angeles. I have read a lot about the difficulty of transportation and the often high cost of getting around, but it seems to me that if I fly in to Nosy Be and spend my trip in that area it would not be so bad.

So here I am, knock some holes in my plan and let me know the strong and weak points. If I go I will leave a detailed, verbose account with really, really nice quality photographs.

As stupid as it can be it is illegal in Mada to wear camouflage pattern clothing it is really the first time I see someone in Mada except for army and law officer to wear camouflage pattern clothing.

I spent a full month in the Non mongering town of Sambava during September 2019.

Arrived with tsaradia flight from diego on time. From the airport I walked 1 minute to the main road and took a Bazaz for 1 k to Villa Layannah. https://goo.gl/maps/4Axitb74iPSpLyAG8.

To be precise I went down on the main road as if Bazaz get down to secondary Road you add 1 k more. You all know Villa sheridan so its the same place as the old Vhaza sold it to local family, Now the place was entirely renovated and painted etc. They have hot water and free WIFI although the router is on the ground floor so single strength is not that good on upper floor that face the sea.

Front room price is 50 k but I paid 45 k. Since sambava is not yet connected by asphalt road to ambilobe everything is expensive so I bought once few Eau vive and fill it from the owner kitchen Tap. This is a separate pipe line then you have in your room and used for drinking.

Sambava does not have any serious supermarket and nearly no value restaurants outside the hotels. There is a new Gym for 150 k per month next to Pizzeria Boule the'or in the way to the beach with several girls shaping their butt.

But reality so far is not so bright as I hoped.

Well, as the winter was coming to my country I as usual fled away from it. This time to Madagascar. On the Internet it is said that I can get 2 month visa on arrival + 1 month extention with my shitty passport of central Asian country. But mf in Ivato airport had his own opinion on that and only gave me 1 month stamp. So later I got additional 2 month extention in Tamatave immigration office. (followed the instruction from here, by Neddy I think, thanks. I paid 100 k in office and 30 minutes later took it back).

First I went for standart tourist route with baobabs and lemurs. 12 day later was dropped off in Tamatave, at Miray hotel, where I am currently in (100 k / day).

2 weeks of abstinence and as soon it got dark I went out, Monday. Ate dinner at empty la terrasse, then moved to "beach road". Well, you have to bring flashlight with you to see anything. Its dark there, and I just saw uncertain shadows with rare "bonjours". OK, never liked to pick girls from streets anyway. Sat in nearby bar for a drink. Two big beers later I am in a good condition and its only 8 pm. Went to queens, few ugly girls there. At least there was light and I could see them. Manager speaks a little Russian, which surprised me. I have 0 French, BTW. Spent 2 hours there drinking beer and waiting taxi be to open. Taxi be was also empty with 4-5 girl, and after 11 it got busier. I was pretty drunk already, picked a girl and we moved to my room. Good report. You took the plunge. But as I pointed out previously. Mada is for advanced Africa mongers. You're just facing the steeper learning curve. Better stick to Kenya next time. I'm sorry your trip sucked and that's why I ask the questions that I ask. Most experienced mongers will tell you to kick the girl out in the morning.

That's why I don't want to go somewhere so poor and so dependent on tourist dollars that you have to pay to avoid jail. Uber or some kind of ride app stops the taxi hustle. I would've paid the girls off too. Africa is not Asia not saying that 3 somes isn't possible but she'd have to be a severe hardcore to accept it immediately.

If the place has touristy shit that would be diversion but I was in your shoes at one point pissed off that I had to pay for quality or accept quantity. I suggest that on your next trip that you go to a more developed place.

Dude, to know the currency exchange rate anywhere takes less than a minute. To know the oil boom is over in Angola is old news. If a budget of 1000 usd a month is good enough for you that's just a reflection of your class and comfort zone. I'm looking forward to Luanda and don't intend to experience it on a 'African middle class income'. Afterwards, I'll be glad to point out where the girls and fun spots are located.

Weird shit #2. Morning I want to have a hair cut. Catch puss-puss and explain him what I need, he says okok. I tell 1 k to get me there, he nods head. We go to one shop. Closed, then to the second shitty hut 3 x2 meters 4 guys in there. Well, at least they have scissors. My puss driver says he will wait me. I show him 2 finger and say 2 k, he nods. After hair is done we are going back and driver says "How much you pay", "the fuck you mean, 2 k we talked about it already", "No, 5 k". I get off the bike give him 2 k and try to leave, he follows and mumble something about fighting me if I don't give him 5 k (the guy is half my size, BTW), starts to scream. Again would you do? I gave money to that poor little fuck.

Have one more week here in Tamatave. Getting bored. Went to Pandora for the first time yesterday 11 pm-1 am, very few lone girls, several couples and big malagasy groups of 6-7 people on 1 table.
