My opinion is don't buy the burner, just download google voice and use that number to setup whatsapp.

It's both, street girls by the clock tower and club scene. I personally am not interested in Isis or Pley club and would rather party at La Dolce Vita or Space. If you're on airbnb just message your host and if you're doing a hotel, just book for 2 people.

    Hello all,

Contemplating making my first trip to Cartagena in March.

My mongering experience so far has been a handful of Sosua trips and one to Costa Rica. I'm a decent looking early 40's white American with minimal Spanish speaking skills, but I had a great time in both DR and CR and didn't have any issues.

From what I've gathered reading through the first couple pages here, March seems like a good time to go, and the average is 150-200 k COP / HR which seems comparable to DR so that's cool.

Is the vibe more street girls or club / bar or both? I'm good with either.

Any recommendations on chica friendly hotels or rentals and just general intel would be appreciated.

What's the plaza look like during the end of the month. Planning on going 25-29. Is it worth going?

    Cell phones Colombia

You are not saying in your post so I must ask. Are you planning to buy this phone in Colombia or before you leave. Unless you are fluent in spanish, I suggest you buy one before you leave. Yes they may be able to set it up for you in English but with some hassle, and also electronics are more expensive in Colombia. If you just need a phone to do the basics, communicate, navigate, translate, etc. Then I suggest buying an unlocked multiband phone off of Amazon or some place and then you will just need to buy a SIM when you arrive in Colombia. I say buy a multiband because then you have the most flexibility on carriers when you arrive. The GSM 850 and GSM 1900 bands are used in Colombia for cell phones. They will need to see your passport also. Depending on how far out your trip is, your cheapest option is probably ordering a phone off amazon, there are unlocked phones on there for less than $100.

Here is an article by an expat living in Colombia about cell phones, scroll down to "Using Cell Phones from Other Countries".

With Colombian burner phone you get a new Colombian number

    Dear Hank,

You will receive a new Colombian number when you purchase the burner phone. Just remember to get it "Recharged". It is possible that the cell phone store will not do the recharging. Again, the expression recharging has nothing to do with electricity, but rather sells you minutes of connect time, data, etc. It is very cheap compared to the US. It is also performed for you at the cash registers of most small grocery stores, gas stations, etc. You simply ask the cashier for "recharga", they tap a few keys, ask for your phone number, give them only a small amount of money, and you are good to go for a couple of weeks or more. It takes maybe two minutes. Your chica will send you pics, you can take pics of her, contact a bunch of other girls, etc. When your trip is over, throw the burner into the trash. Best of luck.

I'll bring an elderly unlocked sammy phone newly reset ideal for collecting chica numbers. And whatsapps.
Essentially "pay as you go" is all a foreign tourists is going to get. I used to always buy them at the Olimpica supermarket (Bocagrande corner of Carrera 3/ Calle 6) but I am sure they are all over the place. I think that Tigo, Claro and Movistar of the big ones , unless one of these has been bought out or something. Just remember that they will want to see your passport. You can look for the logo, I am posting images.

Perhaps I'm overthinking it and Brazil may not be any more shady than Colombia.
Any urban center with millions of people requires that you not act negligent. I visited Sao Paulo a couple years ago and unless you do something stupid like head to Crackolandia, just exercise ordinary care and be aware of your surroundings.

The only exception, which only applies when changing SIM cards from 2 companies in the same country, is if you request to keep your old number. For example, changing from Verizon to T-Mobile, you can either get a new number or keep the old one.

Changing from Verizon to Claro, that's not an option.

I have researched this in the past. Basically it all depends on the size of the boat, as I recall for a smallish boat that will hold half dozen for 6 hours its about $500. -$750. USD for something nice that will wow the chicas and hold 20 your talking $2,200. To $3,000. USD for 6 hours give or take.

I recall a few years back I was ready to pull the trigger on a mid sized boat for $1,700. And searched in vain to find 2 others who would partner with me (IE $600. Each x 3) but no takers.

It would be a lot of fun!

And having never stepped foot in Brazil before, you can understand my hesitations about going alone. Something like a mansion type environment would be good for me to get my feet wet there.

    EDIT:

BTW if you actually want to spend big go here: http://scandallolounge.com.br/ It's in Sao Paulo, Brazil and has fine food, great whiskey, and porn star quality women you can fuck in upscale suites. Don't go spending 200 USD in Colombia on some chica in Cartagena. It's not worth it at all.

Then again you can go in May and still get quoted 200 USD because you made the mistake of asking how much while breathing heavily and sweating. The market place for chicas isn't efficient. It's not the NASDAQ or anything like that. Here's how to pay the price you want to pay: just make your offer. Most chicas will accept unless you smell particularly bad etc.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing. This forum may just be the next best thing to knowing the market rate info for chicas.

Also, that Sao Paolo lounge you mentioned looks promising.
