2) Spending is a tricky topic. There are basically three types of spending that some may consider overpaying:

Exactly correct. There are different scenarios and if one does not acknowledge the different contexts that you correctly identify then they are guilty of conflating issues. Its should be just common sense but often times people on these boards talk past one another. These boards provide sufficient information for everyone to be informed about the pricing structures and to act according to their tastes and wallet. Knowing what I know about the local scene, and having the luxury of time, I don't pay Scandalo / Bomboa / Photo prices. But at the same time I encourage visitors to enjoy themselves up to their limit. Bargain hunters look for bargains, luxury geeks can go the boate route, there are sufficient opportunities for everyone. There is no one size fits all. Thankfully.

Most people I know with serious money all have the same philosophy: Spend money on quality not commodities. And last, I think I've found the secret to cheap travel to Brasil. Its literally a third of the cost coming from Canada than from ANY US city. WTF! For guys in the Chicago area, a United ticket from ORD to GRU will cost over 1800 in January. A round trip United ticket from Toronto to GRU will cost 655 and the ticket has stops at ORD. So just get yourself to Toronto in the morning with some miles and don't take the last leg back to Toronto from ORD.
