Regarding Air BnB-I know it's short term, I was was just wondering how hard it is to find one that allows "visitors"-that's why I asked about renting regular apartment which is yours to do as you please but I understand it is very hard to do needing a Colombian co-signer. Regarding low key-I was just going by with guys from San Jose Costa Rica told me about certain schools there seeing older guys and figuring they were there to monger. Your best bet is to message the hosts. Make that shit explicitly clear about what you are seeking. I have had a few told me its best to look elsewhere or that they allow visitors but no sex tourism. Some have told me that they only allow a certain amount of visitors per week or something of the sort. Some are good but I am hesitant to try them because I have also heard stories that they lie to get you to book and when you get there its not how you think it is. 1. If you're staying for the full 180 days, I'd recommend taking classes at EAFIT, rather than one of the language schools. If you're committed to learning you can take the intensive courses (4 hours daily, 5 days per week, 2 weeks per class) and get in 10 or 11 of the 15 classes in the program. If you pay in advance for at least 6 classes you can get a 1 year student visa. That gives you time to do the entire program. They use placement tests to determine which class to start you in, you may only need 10-12 classes to complete the program.

Class sizes are 4-8 people, it's an immersion program and the instructors are excellent. You'll also connect with people from all over the world. They have weekly multicultural activities to give you chances to practice Spanish and learn to dance, learn about the city, learn about the history, etc. Plus, you're on a college campus full of beautiful Colombians, rather than in a building with several other gringos.

2. I'd suggest starting out with some place you can get for 2 weeks with the option to extend. You can stay in Poblado, or look elsewhere. I lived in Laureles for 2 of my classes at EAFIT. Between walking and the Metro it took me 35 minutes to get to class, for under $1 a trip. You might also consider a rental in El Centro. There are a few decent ones and you don't have to worry about what the neighbors think. If you talk to the host directly you can probably get a good deal.

If you actually completed the entire program at EAFiT making it thru the 15th class than that is impressive. I was placed after being tested in the Level 4 Class and made it thru the Level 7 Class and enjoyed the school and the teachers, but was way in over my head after Level 7. It's brutal and doing the 4 hour a day classes will burn you out in a hurry. So I did the Levels 5, 6, and 7 courses based on a two hour a day program so each level course took a month. So after a pause in studying Spanish I decided to resume studying Spanish and hired a private tutor. I'm glad I attended EAFIT, but would not recommend it for much more than Levels 6-7. At this point your better off hiring a private tutor and it won't cost much more, plus you will have a lot more flexibility in what you learn. However for some people, EAFIT will be to structured for them and with lots of homework. Since it's a certified program worldwide it's not going to be like TOUCAN which is more conversational. If you want to properly learn to read and write Spanish, and are used to taking University level courses, than EAFIT will be a good fit for you. IF its just conversational Spanish you want to learn, than TOUCAN might be a better option.

What I do remember from the classes at EAFIT is that there were a lot of younger students from all over the world, and most of them already spoke a minimum of two languages so they really excelled while I struggled. But I have a come a long way since then, and what a difference it makes when you can communicate, especially with the women here.

First, an Airbnb apartment is a short-term rental apartment. I would not commit to a 6-month rental before I stayed there and found out if I liked it. One problem with going month to month is that the apartment may be rented when your contract is up. Many of the best apartments are booked most of the time for two or three months in the future. Ideally, you should go there for a week and find an apartment you like, then reserve it for six months for a later date.

As for staying low-key, don't worry about that. If you pay the school their stated tuition, they will not care what you do outside the school, just as long as you don't show up drunk or drugged.

I'm coming to Medellin for the 2nd time in April. My main purpose besides our "hobby" is to learn Spanish. My Spanish is low-intermediate and I want to get as close to fluent as I can. I can stay for 180 days if need be. I'm going to attend an immersion school in El Poblado. My question is what would you recommend for lodging for a 6 month stay-stick with Air BnB and rent one month at a time with an option to extend the place if I like it and bail if I don't? Or try and find a short term rental apartment if those exist? I'm not going to go completely crazy like I am on vacation but I would like to bring a chica back around one a week, so that's a consideration. I kind of want to keep low profile because I've been told the Spanish schools really look down on you if they think you are there for the girls and partying. I have some cover stories ready. This makes sense. Seems like a lot of guys are getting threesomes where the girls aren't doing one another, versus the girls doing each other during the act.
