On n26 MasterCard you have an app on the phone with instantaneous updates for each operations fine anywhere in the world.

There are also 3 switches, ATM cash drawing yes / no, web payment why / and, international payments why / and.

If all no, card can be only used in shops on payment terminals.

You receive alerts when attempt of debit unauthorized on your app.

You can manage limits also in the app.

    Very secure.

No fees on international payments, unlimited ATM use outside my country, exhange rate is the current official one.

But the last options costs 10 euros per month.

Aussie cards also now email or SMS you and suspected fraud before totally blocking the card. Bought a suit in Singapore yesterday, a hotel room in Manila today and a massage in Bangkok tomorrow? Just reply 'yes' to the sms alert and no harm done.

It is quite handy. And very safe.

If the card is mislaid, lost or stolen, you can switch it off without needing to notify the bank immediately. The bank notifies you if anyone attempts to use it while switched off. If it is subsquently recovered you just switch it back on again. If your bank cancels the card, it cannot be reactivated. You have to wait for a new one. Cancelled cards also affect any direct debits / subscriptions attached to them.

Switching it off between uses prevents anyone cloning the card from using it.

All the credit card issuers have this feature in my neck of the woods. Regional blocking they call it. You can logon to their web site and turn on and off physical use of your card in different parts of the world (Asia, Africa etc) for a given period.

Capital One credit cards are the same. No travel notification needed.

My AMEX no longer takes travel notifications, They told me when I book a flight with the AMEX card they know where I am going and not to bother calling them.

    Credit card for Grab

You can sign up with Grab from home in USA, just use a VPN.

Don't forget to submit a travel notice to your bank before you arrive.

I'd agree that direct debit to my own card is much easier.
It accepted my US issued Amex a few weeks ago. I was able to load my account and charge directly to my card. Worked in PH and VN without issue.
