Actually you can.

Use Skype-out or Viber out to make a call via the respective app which will then all out into the regular network. You will need some credit on the service though.

He is talking about REGULAR calls and text using GSM networks. So, no you can’t.

You are talking about VOIP calls using WiFi.

Wow.

You can't use wi-fi to make regular calls or texts on your phone. You either need a local SIM card or your own SIM from home needs to work in the country you are visiting.

Over wi-fi you can make calls and send messages through an app, for example whatsapp.

On WiFi you can browse the internet and you can also download maps, languages for translation etc and once downloaded you can use these when not connected to WiFi.

Verizon & Sprint are CDMA technology based phones.

Most higher end Unlocked phones are capable of both GSM & CDMA.

On WiFi basically all phones are internet capable.

A sim card is required to make normal phone calls & text via telephone network.

You can make VOIP calls over the internet using multiple applications, IE WhatsApp, WeChat etc.

You can use Spype, Magicjack or other applications to call land line or cell phones in USA or most other countries, provided You Buy a subscription.

Personally, I think safest decision is to Always buy a local sim card and pay for at least a minimum ampunt of talk time for an Emergency situation.

Cannot dial Police or Ambulance on WhatsApp etc.

You can call and text quite cheaply by subscribing to Skype. I get 60 minutes of free Skype calls a month being a Microsoft subscriber. This is for a limited list of countries but I find using Skype for VOIP calls for times when any of the other chat apps are not convenient is quite easy and cost effective.

Most higher end smart phones have been world phones for some time now (meaning they operate on both GSM and cdma). Verizon phones are unlocked by default, unless you're on a prepaid plan. I just came back about a week ago and my iPhone 11 pro worked fine. Before leaving the terminal, I bought a globe sim from one of the vendors (4 K, 20 ish gb of data+talk+text), the globe girl popped out my Verizon sim, installed the globe sim and set it all up, you can test it before you leave the booth. If attached is your phone, the s10 is a world phone. All devices will work on WiFi no matter where you are. Feel free to pm me any questions. As always, you can call Verizon and confirm that your phone is indeed unlocked and compatible with GSM networks. Have fun out there, I miss it already.

Last time I tried setting up GRAB in April 2019 trip fail message was in line of "Sorry, USA / Canada based cards are not accepted on Grab. Please use cash option. " Has this been updated?

For me, setting up credit card worked when I got to the destination country. Didn't work at home. Don't know if that's the same situation as yours.

Many people here might have much more experience, so feel free to comment.

I noticed there are KTVs near EDSA. I know they are charge more, but one of the local taxi driver told me girls are pretty, and you pay the bill and take her out (if she agrees), she will perform well. Altitude of EDSA bar girls are depends. I have good experiences, and there was a period of time I encountered bad experiences in a row. I like morning sessions, so always ask for a LT. Some girls would agree the tip, etc, and then at 4,5 am there are all the reasons given that she needs to leave. Damage increases quickly. Bar fine might still below Burgos, but tip is at the same level, and in my opinion, talent level is lower. So I think, if anyway the cost is 7 k+, maybe a KTV girl will be more trust worthy? Well, I can tell now that they are the same. Higher pay doesn't mean higher work ethic. The taxi driver just developed his theory based on imagination.

So I did some search, go to the KTV directly and ask to meet the mamasang. There's always people rendering near the entrance and wants to bring you in. Don't follow them. Go to mamasang and tell her you are on your own. Some friend recommended this place. Otherwise your 'broker' will charge a certain fee when you get the bill. These KTVs are normally bigger than bars, with strippers show one by one. Actions started from 7 pm for the 1st batch. The 2nd batch arrived at around 9 pm and make the line up complete. I have to admit the show is good. This is the way girls promote themselves to potential clients. And in average talent level is higher. As for the cost side, if you can have mama waived out entrance fee, you need to pay 1-2 k to book a table, which include drinks for yourself. And you have to have at least one girl with you, with a charge of 600 peso per hour I think. If you want to shag the girl, you can pay 4 k to bring her upstairs (I didn't try), or, pay 7 k to bring her back for a long time. So for any LT, the cost is 9-10 k minimum.

The issue is, I quickly realized that within the 30-50 girls, only less than 5 are willing to do LT. They keeps on suggesting you to go upstairs with them. And they are more aggressive gold diggers. A girl I let go at last asked for a tip of 1 k, which I told her to f**k off. Another asked for supper at 10 pm, after we left the building. She ordered 2 set burge for herself and had me paid. As there are 2 cokes, I started to drink one, and it surprised her. Apparently she thinks that's all hers. I was quite doubtful how can her tiny body consume 2 huge burges, and it turned out that she booked her breakfast for tomorrow as well! So we went to the room, had one session and sleep. I was waked up next morning at 4:30 am and she wanted to leave! I complained that I agreed with mama and herself to have her leave at 8 am and have 2 sessions. Then all the excuses come. In the end I have to tell her, if she leaves, I will claim to the mama right away (so keep contact of the mama as always). Only this kept her. We get to sleep for another few hours till 7 am. Then, she refused to have a 2nd session unless I paid tip. So the same process went again. She fulfilled her duty at last and before she left, she didn't forget to ask for a taxi fee.

Overall I feel higher pay doesn't bring you better performance. I haven't been to airforce 1. Now I suppose the mentality is similar. If you want to spend a few k and enjoy the stripper show, KTV is ok. Maybe someone can tell the ST experience upstairs. I 'm more inclined to deal with FL and develop some regulars. This would take some time and hope the efforts would pay off. Too much dramas from those bar and KTV girls these days.
