You know when you are watching porn and really getting into it when some guy sticks their face on the screen and kills everything? That's what I feel Meseros are, only worse because they expect to get paid for it.

The only time a guy improved my experience there was the first time I went to Hong Kong. I got a VIP card and asked for the half priced lap dance and the bouncer asked if I was into small waist large boobs and hips. I said hell yeah and he found me the best girl I've ever got there. The lap dance was fully nude and lots of rubbing. I asked for arriba immediately and it was the best 10 seconds of my life. I went back down and tipped that guy a fiver. Prob should have tipped him 20.

Waiters in most US bars and restaurants split tips with the kitchen staff at shift ends. They always complain violently with their friends that clients are too cheap on tips.

HK club may be different. Bar tenders and meseros leave their shift separately. One time I was at the meseros' shift-end muster in their lockers room on third floor before they went home. Did not see any collection of tips from meseros to split with anyone. AFAIK meseros keep all tip money to themselves.

If you can, ask bar tenders or managers if they are allowed to keep tips from clients or have a split with meseros at shift ends.

I don't know the exact system in place at HK or Mexican clubs, but in an American restaurant for example the waiters pay a "tip out" at the end of the night which is a percentage of their tips to the bartenders and the bussers. So the bartender receives that tip out money plus his own tips from whoever he serves at the bar. With the tip out system the bartender has incentive to make great drinks in a timely manner. The better job he does keeping his servers supplied with their drink orders, the more the meseros make which results in more money for everybody. I'd be very surprised if the tips I give the bartenders when they serve me a drink just go straight to the club owner, but hey I guess I could start asking around to get to the bottom of this.

But now that I think about it the clubs do seem like they're not really set up for guys to order from the bar. Many times I've found it hard to even get the bartender's attention to serve me a drink. Many times when I'm sitting at the bar I still end up ordering from a mesero instead of the bartender. But I like taking care of the meseros. I've never really had a problem with the meseros in Tijuana and I'm a cheap bastard truth be told. I used to show up to a club, not spend one single peso inside the club, and grab a chica to go straight arriba. Slowly I started realizing jeez I should let these people at least make something, so I'll order a drink or a ficha just to put a little money in their pocket and gain a little popularity. A little bit goes a long way especially outside of HK and especially on a slow night. But I always make sure to "set the tone" with my mesero like hey I'm going to take care of you but don't try to play me like I'm a chump.

It may come as a surprise, but the meseros in HK have to pay to work there. I forget the amount. Weekends cost more than weekdays. I think I've heard that the weekend rate is $40/ day, but I am not positive.

The point is that meseros IMO would never tip anybody because they have to hustle and scam and cheat in order to make that daily nut, just to they can turn some kind of profit at the end of the day. Add a shitton of meseros, far more than is really necessary, and you have fierce competition for every peso, and an atmosphere ripe for ripoffs.

Sure there are a few, and you will inevitably run into them from time to time, but you are trying to make it sound like half the customers you deal with are too demanding, insulting and abusive. Not true. If you provide below-average to good service, these types of customers will be few and far between. It is when you provide terrible service that you will encounter a higher rate of abusive customers. The fact is, if you provide average service or better, the great majority of customers will behave just fine.

My point is, being a waiter is a menial, easy job. Randomly pick 1000 people out of the population. Train them for 2 days and 1000 of them will be able to perform the job. Then take those same 1000 people and train them for two days to be an anesthesiologist. Two days later you will have 0 anesthesiologists.

So, you had to do it, huh? You just had to play the anesthesiologist card, didn't you? You've been carrying that around in your back pocket, just waiting for a day like today, & then BOOM!

And I thought this was going to be a fair fight.

HK's bar tenders serve meseros. Did you ever see meseros tip them? I don't think meseros take up collection at shift's end to share their tips with them. Meseros keep all the tips they make.

Everything in La Zona works on incentives and kick backs to the individuals. Unlike the US if HK's bar tenders are allowed to take tip, the meseros would have tipped them. When I tip bar tenders I notice they put the money into the cash register, not their own pockets, and they act cool like it's not necessary or appreciated. I believe bar tenders handle cash for the boss, are not allowed to take money from the bar, and work on salary alone. If they are suspected of stealing from the bar, they may get whacked! I don't want to give tip unnecessarily to help HK's owner get richer! I would rather give that money to the poor girls.

So far they have not resented me or given me hard times. They still sell me beers cheerfully, hold my extra beers in their ice box to keep them cold and give me free beers when the floor managers order them to. I am only guessing. I may be wrong. Any bros have better insight into the bar tenders' compensation please shed some light. Any bro with good Spanish should ask a bar tender. If I am wrong I would tip them from now on.
