I remember a time when as soon as you got your phone out in a go-go bar a mamassn would be rushing up to you trying to prevent you exchanging numbers with the girl. Is that still the case or can you safely exchange Line these days in a go-go?

I only know pre-COVID, but never would I be given Line ID openly in the bar. She would go to a back room, write it down, and hand it to me later. I sometimes carry 2 or 3 pieces of paper with my Line ID so I could easily give mine to her.

Unsure about Bangkok but many of the top gogo bars in Pattaya don't allow Line exchange INSIDE the bar. Doesn't mean girls don't tell you or write down their Line ID for you. If they're interested in you they will find a way to give you their Line.

I walked into Rainbow 2 go-go bar on the ground level, far right corner of Nana Plaza last night about 8:30pm. Some of the bars open as early as 6:30pm now since they must close by 12 Midnite these days (or 1am if no one is looking).

The stages in all the go-go bars that have reopened, and most of them have in Nana Plaza (not so on Patpong 1&2 and Soi Cowboy) are as full of girls as they would be during normal times but there might be only 3-4 customers in any bar at any one time of the night with about the same number of customers in total milling around outside the bars in the Plaza.

That was also the case with Rainbow 2 when I walked in last night. Stage full of girls, maybe 3 customers. As I stepped inside through the curtain making a beeline for a seat on the opposite side of the room, a few very eager, smiling and attentive drink servers gesturing me to please sit here or here or here so I would be in their area, I looked up at a very hot young dancer, the kind this bar is famous for, on the corner of the stage nearest the entrance and I threw her a big smile and nod.

That elicited zero response from her other than staring deadpan and grim-faced at me or let's say precisely in my direction as though I was invisible. Not a return smile, not a nod back, not the slightest acknowledgement that someone else had finally walked into her bar or, least of all, that I had made an effort to bring in a little polite pleasantry along with my money and presence..

Pre corona Rainbow 2 was a hard weekday sell.

Except the better girls I don't know how anyone makes money there.

I should mention that kind of attitude from the girls toward a farang man like me is not confined to bars like Rainbow 2 known for catering to Asian customers during normal times. It exists in one form or another in other places.

I went into Butterflies go-go bar last night, too, one of the bars I pulled from fairly often during normal times. I did not get the deadpan blank stare cold shoulder response from the first girls on the stage nearest the door, the ones managrment often hopes will draw you all the way in if you only peek through the curtains, as happened in Rainbow 2. There were pleasant smiles on tap from the stage to greet me as I walked in. So I sat and had a drink.

But I sat there among the 5 or 6 other customers sprinkled around the place for about 30 minutes, smiling at a few of the better looking ones among the 100 or so girls on the stages and did not get the least impression any of them were particularly interested in getting a LD or being barfined. From me, that is.

And I suppose I need to mention I only recognized 2-3 girls from before the lockdown.

So, again, I paid the 150 baht tab for my coke, handed the server an additional 20 baht and walked out. I suppose busloads of Japanese and Korean tourists will pull up to fill bars like this one any minute now. Sorry to be unresponsive about this.
