Where did you read that you can get in to Thailand by buying a Thai Elite Visa? If so, I will buy my way in to Thailand!

There's another site that I can't mention that provides links to this. Try https://thepattayanews.com/. You still need to get a current test, a certificate of entry from the embassy, get onto a repatriation flight and then go through quarantine for two weeks on arrival.

Isn't there an exception for entering or returning to Thailand for medical procedure appointments? If anyone already in Thailand with a legitimate current visa, especially an annual retirement visa, absolutely must leave Thailand, I would probably immediately set up an appointment for the near future to get some minor liposuction done, or a few hair transplants, maybe dental work, whatever, and try to bank on that as my excuse to return. Could be worth a try if you have no other choice but to leave.

Not that you must already be in Thailand when setting up that future appointment for the exception. It seems anyone who makes a medical appointment in Thailand from anywhere can try that exception. Just that I assume someone who has a longer term Thai visa could renew it that way upon re-entry rather than entering on an ordinary tourist visa.

An expat friend of mine who owns a condo in Bangkok and lives here most of the year but got caught outside the borders and stuck in his home country during the lockdown is looking into that loophole right now.

There is currently thrown around by the government called " medical tourism " as one of the items associated with the list along with diplomats, marriage to a Thai but I never applied for one it was so easy to just keep obtaining a Retirement extension especially when one could just make an appointment at your Embassy and obtain a letter. Even if you fall within one of the categories like my brother who's got a Marriage one still needs to do the following which from everything I've read from others who went through the list it takes at least a month?

Time isn't on my side although I might be needed the other side of the world I'm also needed here more my wife has a form of Leukemia although she is doing well she needs me even more so there isn't anyway I can chance departing and not being able to return!

First one must contact a Thai Consulate which in my case is L. A. I wrote to them two months ago outlining my situation with myself here and mother back home still waiting! Nevertheless, one is supposed to contact them and first obtain a letter " certification of entry " submitting documents which I hear is a Covid-19 test result, other documents which I heard is a policy of insurance minimum coverage $100,000 USD (COVID-19) equals 3 million-plus baht coverage at my age for the period of my stay runs something like $5,000 USD. Even if you pass those hurdles and get a letter you must take another COVID test and it must be no older 72 hours prior to your arrival in BKK.

When it comes to flights when I obtained my Cathay Pacific Ticket at the office in Bangkok, the clerk told me they were running a flight out of Bkk one a week? To H. K. The aircraft was inbound to BKK as Cargo then turn around to carry passengers out. Although I didn't see it online he told me they were running daily flights from H. K. To SFO and back was going to increase after July 1st also increase H. K. To BKK if air space opens up which hasn't. So even if I got that far how would I get back into BKK since there aren't any flights it was suggested to contact the airline that was repatriating Thais and qualified people like medical, diplomats, etc. I believe Cathay might have been one of those airlines. The final items once back in BKK you had to be quarantined for 14 days.

As for using a medical excuse once you do your 14 days you can get your medical procedure and thereafter travel throughout Thailand for the rest of your trip?

Just thinking about this shit I want to load up and kill that MF in China! I usually do it for a fee but this one I will do it for free for the good old USA.

I doubt a mere dental appointment would suffice. A hair transplant or any other similar procedure would probably require a substantial downpayment. I also suspect authorities would be quick to close loopholes. There are no more than 4 or 5 well-known hair transplant surgeons in Thailand, they cannot be seen to bring planeloads of medical tourists into Thailand.

Yep, living on another continent when you still have old folks alive who may require flying back at a day's notice is tricky enough in normal times. With Covid it becomes unmanageable. I flew back from Thailand because I had been 6 months without seeing my old folks back home, now I find myself locked out of Thailand, God knows for how long.

The medical tourism visa is about the only way anybody can get here at the moment but it is not easy to get one. No problem this end, lots of hospitals often in conjunction with hotels are offering 14 day quarantine wellness packages (cost 60 k to 70 k) approved for a medical visa by the powers that be, the problem is getting a Thai embassy abroad to issue a Confirmation of Entry.

Along with the hospital booking and the usual bits and pieces you need.

Insurance of $100,000 which includes cover for Covid 19.

Letter from your local medical provider saying you need the treatment.

Fit to fly certificate issued not more than 72 hours before take off.

Medical Cert indicating a Covid negative RT-PCR test issued not more than 72 hours before entry. With delays in getting test results back from a lab this is not straight forward.

Proof you have enough finances to cover all costs while you are here.

A friend of mine on a retirement visa is stranded in the UK. Despite numerous attempts to contact the Thai embassy he has been unable to get an appointment or even talk to anybody willing to answer queries such as is the medical visa available to long term residents. At first glance this seems to be a single entry limited stay visa.

Chinese New Year is my annual trip home 2021 it will be on Feb 12th, in that two week period my main purpose is to spend time with my mother is currently is 102, even before the virus whenever I get an email or phone call from home I think the time has come? I speak to her each week and although she is physically good her mental state seems to be getting worse each time I talk to her?

This gives me a lot of sleepless nights because if something happens I'm locked here in Thailand unable to see or bury her? I'm willing to deal with the ticket cancelation or even lose the money entirely it isn't the big issue with me.

I would try to do exactly the same thing if I were in your position. My mother passed while I was on a road trip in Northern Peru. I drove non stop down to Lima in 10 hours and then I jumped on a flight back to Miami the next day as soon as I heard the sad news.

Personally, my heart tells you Yes! Because it would show a sign that things have opened up but from everything being said it is right now the middle of July. Unless you have some real power like being a diplomat even then there is a whole list of items required by home prior to even getting to the airport. I've read just 2-3 full stories from people overseas who needed to get back into Thailand and it took close to a month before they satisfied that list!

I took a chance to book a ticket for Feb of next year Chinese New Year and the way things are going outside of Thailand particularly the USA It feels like 50/50 but there might be some hope. Company in Oxford in joint venture with USA? Supposedly got pass the first phase for the vaccine with two major results now final testing of 30,000 groups if successful indication Dec?

Having had my April flight cancelled in March and just now my mid August Flight cancelled and refunded by United, I am in no mood to buy another ticket even though I spotted some real good deals for March 2021. Good deals as in very low price, very short trans pacific duration, and fully refundable if the flight is cancelled by the airline. But no thanks. I am done betting against the virus. I am going to wait until the various vaccines arrive.

But there is good news on the vaccine front, as LBM points out, the Oxford University Group is making real progress. Here is a snip from today's WSJ:

My fear is that because of lack of customers girls decide to opt out of this business and seek employment elsewhere so that when I get there (who knows when that would be?) most of the girls are gone.

The age of nice sweet girls on the game who clean up easily (so much you'd hardly suspect their former profession) were gone 5-10 years ago.

In the post-crisis period, Thailand won't exactly be teeming with regular employment opportunities for blatantly obvious bargirls with zero useful skills and the work habits of getting 2 k baht for 30 min of laying on their back. Some might go upcountry due to no customers, but I bet most will be back in Pattaya once the tourists are back. Unfortunately, the scene went down the drain long before Covid, and won't be any better afterwards.
