    Help

I have a business property in Bali. Of course it's shut down now. I am anxious about it. So if anyone living in Bali finds out that foreigners can enter Bali, please post on this thread. I live in the USA (which probably means that I will not be allowed to enter even if Bali opens up), but my partner is a Singaporean living in Singapore. Thanks.

Yes, one hundred percent. Funny you say that. I hadn't realized it, but these times must be so tough for some in that they resort to stealing. I just got off the phone with a friend who got "dicopet" (robbed) this morning. Everything in her bag gone, phone, wallet, STNK, etc.

Any word on the situation? Any good spots to check out? Been a while since I was there.
I would love to be there now the pickings will be low as many have gone home to their family and villages.

They need your help, they are struggling so you will negotiate on favorable terms.

The phase "Do you speak Bahasa?" is the colloquial and informal way of of asking do you speak Bahasa Indonesia. I have been speaking "Bahasa" as a second language for 40 years now so I feel I know what I am saying is correct.

The only people that have ever questioned me about this phrase are ones that have little to no experience of speaking "Bahasa". Once it is explained to them they get it and use it!

You are so f at cking wrong. Indos are big on abbreviations and will always ask if you speak Bahasa. Being married to an Indo for almost 20 years I have never heard any one ask if I speak Indonesian, except for bule, and very rarely Bahasa Indonesia.

You won't be going there in July. Period. I haven't heard of any flights actually going into Bali any time soon and your home country probably wouldn't allow you to go neither. Be prepared to be cancelling flights. Even if you already lived in Indonesia, flights to be Bali are government workers and workers who have special permit only.

Besides, all of these places you mention, without the tourism, would be closed.

I have been to Maharani near Gatot Subroto a few times. Very hit and miss, the hits were good, but the misses were annoying. Some good experiences there at a reasonable price. I don't like the traffic in Legian so I try to avoid it that area.

Dating apps work the best for me, but take much more time in sending messages. But can spend around 200 on a hotel room, and 500 or 600 on a decent girl it works out quite reasonable. I had a few girls available on rotation, but some seem to have moved on. This was all before COVID-19 took over.

I hear that Riverview is great, but the time I went there was so Vanilla, and the price was higher than the internet informed me. I tried the place out and it was so so, never went back though the reviews I read suggest much higher mileage with much prettier young ladies.

I've gone to the main thoroughfare at Dewi Sri and it's crap. Went to Maharani and it was really low on my return list. Been to four or five x-houses and it's cheap but depressing. Lots of cute girls, but they really don't want to be there, they don't like you more than they like their pimp, and their service clearly show it.

Tried using Wechat to find locals and they're ALL pimps trying to pander their blah ladies. The ones that aren't pimps are guys dressed as girls who promise to give you a tight adventure in their butt and will swallow your load. I don't party that way, so I didn't continue with the conversation.

Stick with the ranking above. Can't promise that every visit will be ultra GFE. And I will warn you about you taking risks doing anything bare. These places are the ones that'll get you. I give mongering in Bali a 80% "survival" rate. And by survival, I mean getting out without needing a superdose of Zpack.

I'm a foreigner who learned Bahasa, and every time I've been asked about it, the Indonesians ask "You speak Bahasa?

    Iya.

I'm just assuming that RioD chimed in with the most literal sense of the language. No point in bickering about it at length.

    Language Lessons

This is no reflection on RioD but the previous exchanges reminded me of when a friend of a friend was learning BI through a foreign University while at work in Indonesia. She was going well in the lessons and tutorials but was failing badly when it came to the exams and few of the corrections made sense to her. Exasperated, she finally had a Indonesian workmate actually sit an exam in her place. Again she failed. When she questioned this, she received comments that no Indonesian would ever speak that way and she should pay more attention to her (white) lecturer. 😁.

    True story. G.

Correct. They will ask "Bisa berbahasa?" Or even shorter "Bisa Bahasa?" Meaning "Can you speak Indonesian?" not "Can you language?

Bahasa does mean language but colloquially it is also used alone to mean specifically the Indonesian language.

Asking about another language would be "Bisa Bahasa Inggris?" etc.

    To answer your other comments:

"Satoy" is being a know-it-all but in a playful context. It's often a mild insult between friends.

I've got no interest in turning this into a pissing contest but if you want to check where, when and if I have spoke Indonesian, just check my early posts on the Indonesian boards.

    Cheers. G.
