There are many stories about these money charging ATMs and money changers in Prague. There is one near Jindriskka tram stop which used to give good rates for money exchange. It used to have a queue most of the times.

I hardly ever use money changers when traveling nowadays. In some countries like in the UK you could get zero fee for foreign transaction debit card. Not all card though, you will have to check what it is the to be applied to your card for foreign transaction. If you have this card this will be the best way of getting foreign currency from ATM. You will get either Visa or Mastercard exchange rate without fee. Which is in many case close to mid-market exchange rate like you find in https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/.

But in Prague money changer are notoriously know to fool tourists with fee and commission it is not just in "Jindriskka tram which is in the city centre, it is almost everywhere close to tourist spot actually. The one notoriously known is "Cheque point" money changer. For that reason, you are probably be better off using your debit card even with fee.

Stick with the bank ATMs. CSOB, Raffeissen, and the other many banks have ATMs at their branches. Avoid Euromoney ATMs, and the ATMs at nightclubs. They charge high fees and give poor exchange rates.

The money exchanges at tourist hotspots are suspicious at best. Search for "Honest Guide Prague" on youtube. He's made it his mission to expose these scammers.

Well the only way that I know of is to look at the exchange rate they offer and before you do anything check it online yourself, also before you exchange money ask how much it gives you, today 1€ is equal to 26,25 Czech koruna. Just do the math, if it dips far below that it's a scam.
