We're in the Cartagena thread. Buildings can totally ban visitors. Many buildings in Cartagena do so because they don't want hookers over. With the pandemic I suspect the local government, which is always looking to clamp down on this stuff ostensibly, will ban anyone except registered visitors from staying in the apartment buildings in the tourist areas. You'll see.

Me the same only because the first trip will be to Brazil where I can get much more hobby value; I just wait until 14 days quarantine / avoid non-essential travel guideline to be lifted here, and depending on which country will be dropped from that 'avoid non-essential travel list' (now all the countries are on the list). I don't know how the buildings legally can ban visitors; then there are motels and girls rent somewhere too, there are opportunists to will rent, and as always you can go 'al fresco', very romantic.

Bars and adult venues to start to be open September 4th and 5th, 2020. So this is a major shift in policy. This is also a green season in the city (hot and rainy). My preferable slot dates for Carty is between December until the end of Carnival. We shall city if November event like beauty pageant take place in a usual format or not. Colombia will start soon several vaccine trials to give a boost of confidence. There is no safe bet, the House always takes a cut, and one may say that summer 2021 is going to be a safer and nicer time to visit, but as long as you don't want to delay life and have other issues of travel reasonably set to you specifically (quarantine, insurance, air fares and all contingencies) I guess you can plan for December and forward. Of course, mine is only an opinion.

The situation in Colombia is not worse than in the US, so now without a mandated quarantine anyone with a good medical that guarantees treatment abroad (which is actually cheaper than back home) may take a leap and take a trip.

As I just replied you in the MDE thread, where you stated the same, that is for US citizens returning to USA, but the drop is not bidirectional: still most of other countries ban people from USA to enter their borders, or at least require 14-day quarantine. That is very reasonable, if we just look at the numbers and their trend.

No way, if I had government responsibility in a country, I would allow people from USA, Brazil, India, and many other COVID-hot countries to enter my borders.

It is interesting to note that Italy (I imagine the same holds for other EC countries) now fully bans people from Colombia, Brazil, and other hot countries, but allows people from USA with 14-day quarantine. See, size matters.

I know someone will argue: if my country has X incidence of COVID, why should I deny entrance to people coming from areas with same X incidence? The response is obvious in basic epidemiology: the less people moves around, the less the virus spreads. In hard lock-down, people is not allowed to move out of few hundreds meters from home (in Wuhan, people was not even allowed to go out of their home! Now China has nearly zero cases). This allows people to get infected by people in the same small circle, but not from circle to circle.

South America Government leaders be dumb AF.

They take their 3rd world trash economies and put them on lockdown and mandatory quarantines.

Yet, they don't realize that by saving the lives of three 80 year olds, they ruined their economies, by doing so.

You're right though, I keep talking to Venie's who mention that that just moved back from Colombia. (Now I realize I was talking to working girls LOL).

When I whatsapp girls in Colombia and Venezuela and explain to them that I had COVID 2 times, they freak out and think it's the end of the world plague.

I have been keeping in touch with the folks I know down in Cartagena. Some things I have been hearing. Keep in mind this is only what I'm told. It may not be 100% accurate:

    * Evidently there is some talk suggesting beaches may open in November. I don't know how likely this is but my tout is excited (the poor fucker).

    * Most of the Venezuelans chicas have left. I only communicate now with one who had her phone taken by her landlord (a common thing when they can't make rent). She uses her friends phone and lives with a bunch of other Venezuelans who are trying to stick it out.

    * Many and I mean MANY businesses have shut forever. Many clubs and restaurants are gone for good. Youtube "nadia cartagena" and look at her channel. It's a lady there that's been documenting the carnage to the tourist industry during this pandemic. She interviews many of the (former) business owners. Business owners who have been there for decades have had to shut down permanently.

    * Earlier today a friend (non-mongering) mentioned that Cartagena had its deadliest day today recording more COVID related deaths than ever.

I doubt we're going back this year, even in November. I don't believe it's going to be safe. I doubt you'll find many chicas but I am sure some will be around, especially the local Colombians. I wish I had better news but things are shaping up exactly the way I expected them too. It will be several years for "normal" to be back and places like Cartagena will change forever.

There is the possibility of fast PCR tests at the border to lower the 14-day period, but there at least two issues: 1) the availability of enough tests for the expected number of people crossing the borders 2) the need of repeating the test after few days, with the attached burden to trace all people and chase them for the 2nd test.

I know some troll on other Colombia threads questioned the real usefulness of blocking travels in order to control virus spreading (or pretended to not understand), but I will just mention that person mobility is a key parameter in any epidemic model: if persons never move, spreading is nearly ZERO, as infection happens only between persons in close proximity, but their position never changes. If a government does not opt for local lockdown, at least they can block moving across borders. It's something, also when the epidemic is already rampant locally.

I thought about that many times, but La Costa is not really the place for that.

There are several, not many, in Medellin and Bogota, but nothing compared to vicious Europe!
