This is true in many cases. Even one of my regular chicas is very leary of immigrating to the USA. My parents said the same thing. I grew up in the states but was not born there. I arrived when I was very young. For the first 15 to 20 years in the states, I remember as I was growing up, my parents would always tell me how they missed their homeland and would eventually go back to retire there.

After about 20 years in the states, my parents had a chance to go back and visit. Everything had changed. Globalism and investment had poured money into the economy. People they knew had died and passed away. They no longer have the friends they once had. Since then they stopped talking about going back to retire in their homeland, and now talk about going to Florida to retire.

Cuba may be a bit different in that I don't think its changed a lot. But people get used to things. They make new friends and they make new family as their kids grow older get married and have kids. Anyways. Just a data point.
