Last week a friend of mine traveled to Phuket looking for work. Of course, she didn't find anything. Our video chats made the place look even more deserted than the linked video. The west end of Patong road at the police box was void of people at sunset. Many of the family owned villas and hotels have changed owners, their sights are set on reopening in December or January. My guess is we still have another 6 months before effective vaccines are widely distributed, 8 months before Thailand opens without harsh restrictions, and 12 months before many foreign tourists return to the Thailand resort areas.

By then most airlines will be a shell of their former self with few staff and planes flying so it will take time to ramp up flights with rare pilots with flying hours available and staff sacked yrs back.

Whether things are open or not isn't much of a issue when you cannot enter Thailand as a tourist seems to me like putting the cart before the horse, and if you already are in Thailand you should have a whole black book of contacts that you wouldn't need bars.

20-50 baht in Thailand is a huge tip. I can't imagine tipping that much to a bathroom attendant. If a bar owned bathroom was beautifully maintained, I might tip 5 or 10 baht.
