That's great news! I can see how pedestrians crossing the border from Laredo, Texas would be much safer being able to use Uber once arriving into Nuevo Laredo. Hopefully, Uber drivers will not be bullied out of those essential tourist hot spots by the Taxi community.

    Thank You

    CenTex,

Thank you. You gave us very clear and valuable info on getting to MTY from NL. I will be visiting NL in the second week of December. I hope to make a quick trip to MTY from there.

Do you think its worth it to just take the direct greyhound from sa to NL? Or drive to laredo and cross on foot? I'm wondering what would be faster? Greyhound says its 6.5 hrs from sa to mty. I'm just wondering how jacked up the greyhound crossing is.
I've done that route both directions. When the bus crosses the bridge, it will glide across, then everyone hops off and collects their luggage from lower cargo hold and enters the main building. Mex side takes about 15 minutes, US side takes about 30 minutes. Then reboard bus. Mex side you get issued a 7 day permit.

Remember Greyhound of Monterrey their station is randomly north of the core of the city, no where near the Autobus Centrale. Either get Uber ready or take the nearby starting point of the Metro rail.

Bus from san Antonio vs NL to mty?

    Land entry permit verdict

Since I know readers were worried about me here's how Laredo / international flying worked out.

Drive in thru big bridge, asked Mex agents about the FMM Migracion card in Aduana office. The agent referred me to the CITEV building.

Building is 24 hours but cards are only issued from 6 am-10 pm 7 days a week.

Woke up early, got back to building at 7 am, gave BS story about FMM for 3 days, gave me a free 7 day card. Issued in less than 10 minutes. Parked car with NL friend, took Taxi to Noreste bus station on Lopez De Lara slightly southwest of town, hourly departures to Monterrey.

Viva has restored the 100 p bus transfer from Autobus Centrale to MTY Airport (45 minute ride).

No one in MTY asked for FMM permit.

Flew to Quito EC with 1 h15 m transfer in Mexico City.

Moment of make or break did $0 land permit pay off?

Quito boarding gate staff asked me to give them permit to legally leave Mexico. Showed them permit stamped in Tamaulipas land entry for $0. She looked at it. Goose bumps moment! The suspense as she raises an eyebrow.

It was accepted as valid for leaving Mexico via air. Big sigh.

Saved $25 and boat loads of last minute headaches some transit passengers have fallen victim to timewise.

Hope this info can help others exploiting dirt cheap airfare to Central / South America via Monterrey.

On flight from Quito back to Mexico City, was issued a fresh 180 day permit. Say I'm supposed to cough it up when I leave for Laredo Texas but no one ever asks.

I have also met girls there. Decent place, for Laredo very good, but as stated above there is nothing above. I would be careful renting an Apartment in Laredo, unless you know the city. Laredo is dangerous.

I'm going to meet a girlfriend in NL. Neither of us know the city. Does anybody have a good hotel to recommend? Something that preferably has good restaurant. Is it currently safe to venture out for restaurants in NL?

Last question is about bus service to mty from NL. How often do buses run? Is there multiple busses running frequently all hours? Any particular bus companies recommended? Thanks.

    Aduana border place

    CenTexCrash,

I am not sure I understand you. Are you talking about the Mexican Customs office at Bridge #1 in NL?
