The USA authorities will not give you any hassles for walking into Texas.

The key step you HAVE to do in this attempt is if you're not a Mexican national / holder of Mexico passport, before walking the bridge, find the Nuevo aduana / Citev building and hand return your tourist permit. Not doing this may result in getting the run around, possible fines when re-applying for a fresh 180 day Mexico permit. (You want to remain on their good side and have proof that you exited Mexico before going past the 180 day mark).

Everything else doesn't seem to be an issue.

My sincere apologies for the trouble. Do you know if Mexican Immigration at the Nuevo Laredo Border Crossing will grant me a 180 day visa-free pass, or only for 7 days? Purpose: non-essential travel (simply, I just want to continue my residence at my Airbnb apartment in Monterrey while living my day-to-day life). I'm not re-entering for mongering, etc. I'm just a simple Asian-American who's retired Army, living and traveling abroad (in my case, Mexico), learning and studying Spanish online, meeting new & different people, and enjoying life in peace.

My apologies for not being specific about wanting to return / re-enter for another 180 days.

Yes, I'm native-born California, former Army BRAT & retired Army going on 8 years. I'm currently renting a long-term Airbnb place until I save up enough money to apply for a long-term resident visa, at the same time, renew my driver's license in the near future. I'm learning and studying Spanish online via YouTube videos.

My 6 month visa-free stay expires on Christmas Day. I plan to do this "visa run" sometime early or mid-December. I've done visa-runs in the past throughout SE Asia.

When I said "all things considered", I did read the various posts and forums here about other's various adventures and experiences; good & bad. So, by arming myself with this knowledge and info, I can determine for myself whether or not to do a visa-run by foot, or do it safe by flight. Personally of course, I want to save money just like everyone else. However, due to the current global situation with the virus and pandemic, again "all things considered".

Been living and traveling throughout Mexico via 6 months visa-free.

I'm planning to do a border crossing via Nuevo Laredo to Laredo, Texas. Will spend a day or two there, then re-enter Nuevo Laredo, Mexico for another 6 months visa-free by border crossing.

All things considered, is the border in Nuevo Laredo allowing Americans visa-free entry, or should I just take a round-trip by flight?

The ones that I personally am familiar with are, Malinche, Safari, and Banderas. I have been told the Bar Peñon and, in NLBT, Los Arcos, are also open, I have not personally confirmed that. Many restaurants also serve beer, supposedly with food, but I have sat and drank without ordering food.

Yes go to MTY. Way better than NL.

I think any where in the world is better then Laredo at the moment. The only reason to go is to meet a girl from MTY for a night. Easier said then done, 95% will not travel to MTY, that tells you something.

If I don't get street hookers in MTY / NL, then I will get something moderate in san antonio or ausin or dallas or Houston to save time and just abandon my mexico dream this time? Which will be value for money? My only concern about MTY / NL is getting robbed or killed (as recently I got robbed in my hometown so little low on confidence).

Yes go to MTY. Way better than NL.

I mongered in MTY a couple of weeks ago and my experiences were not good. As some of you know, I like the Spas but many had been shut down due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. Police can be seen patrolling streets where the closed Spas which are still trying to operate in secrecy are. I also had 2 really bad experiences with border patrol agents on the way back from MTY as part of of the group traveling by bus. Once, crossing back on bridge 1 and the other crossing the check point back into central Texas. The border patrol agent at bride 1 was doing some type of contact tracing even though they had not proven that any of us where actually sick with Covid-19. Plus, I was really mistreated at both checkpoints to say the least. I believe that border patrol reads this forum too. I heard on the news yesterday that Nuevo Laredo is once again close to non essential travel.

Not any more it's not. You will be extremely saddened by the state of it these days. A total waste of time to go there.

To expand on that reply. Yes, some bars are, or will be, opening, the ones that have a bar / restaurant permit. Which is in reality like 5 bars.

You have to take the good with bad. My trips have been awesome, I few bad things happen, but I keep moving forward and learn from your mistakes.
