When I looked to book my next flight to Colombia, I saw reasonable fares from Atlanta and Dallas and crazy high fares from Florida and Houston. Things SHOULD be dirt cheap going to Colombia given the spare capacity the airlines have and fuel costs, but they are not because the airlines have been gun shy about increasing capacity. I really do not like the trigger finger happy way governments have been lording over businesses since the virus hit. As far as I am concerned, governments have decimated the world economy with very little to show for it.
Still, there is too much faith in governments and the resistance to fighting pointless government lockdowns and travel bans is still not at the level it should be, so businesses are scared to expand and rightly so. Point is that we are not going to see the massive reduction in air fares we mongers are due.
With hotels, the capacity may be even more overstretched than with airlines, and that cannot be taken off the market so quickly but even with that, I have not seen the reduction in prices due us there either. To the contrary, I am seeing less service, the same prices, and increased paranoia, and guest fees. This raises another point I do not think people get. Right now, hotels are putting the concerns of government officials first and paying customers second.
The notion that Texas has more cases of the Flu than California and that Texas has done a horrible job with the Flu while California has done a great job would be derided as stupidity. Governments cannot control the flu virus, yet here we have Corona, a type of the flu virus, and somehow due to what may be the stupidest "scientific" campaign of all time, governments are now being judged and graded on how a virus spreads in their region.
Once people reject that notion for the complete idiocy that it is, and we are not there yet, governments and not the market are going to be the primary factor with regards to travel pricing.

I thought this was the Bogota mongering board. Turns out it's the "My panties are in a bunch over the election" board.
Here's what happens every 4 years, for those out there who can't remember back that far. After every Presidential election the winning side declares we're about to enter a golden age. Their candidate is going to fix everything from the economy to persistent foot odor. It's going to rain soup and the losing party is never going to recover.
Meanwhile the losers tell us the world is ending and we'll all get gonorrhea and be robbed and raped by the new administration.
Every 4 years. I've lost track of how many times the world has ended, we've been taken over by China or Russia and the government has taken away all our freedoms.
Maybe this time you'll be right, whichever side you're on. However, there's not a fucking thing you can do about it until the next election except cry or crow. Neither one is going to help anyone trying to get laid in Bogota.
I'm betting that 4 years from now things won't be much different. 230 years of history backs me up.
BTW: If you're in a panic over 1 junior Representative, either she's the most intelligent person in the world, capable of manipulating a majority in both houses of Congress, the president and the Supreme Court, or you need someone to change your diaper.
Relax. If you can't change it, worrying about it does no good.

Posts: 295This thread went downhill fast. We were talking about good spas and mongering locations.
Then suddenly went to stinky buttholes and exchange rates.
Are you really going to complain that it now might cost you $55 to fuck a super hot babe instead of just $50?

Posts: 1316Wait when the things start normalizing and the country opens more after the malady, COP will weaken against the USD again. Now new admin means higher infrastructure and relief package; this pushes bond rates up and the greenback down, and stocks up through the discount model.

People went into the dollar and pushed up its value due to uncertainty. It was first about the virus and then the election. What is fucked up to me is how important politics are for business. Whichever party is in control does its best to fuck the money makers for the other party. Walmart is Republican, and Amazon is Democrat so money is going to go to Amazon or other Democrat companies. This really should not matter but it does. Money flowed into Democrat leaning companies once there was clarity on the election and out of the dollar / cash.
As for the exchange rate, it is based on a lot of things, but whenever there is a crisis like Covid, people will flock to the dollar. So Covid had more to do with the move up in the dollar than Trump did. In the long run, the rates are due to import and exporting of goods, interest rates, and inflation rates in the country. Colombia used to get many of its dollars from oil, and it used to be the USA would send out more of its dollars for oil over anything else, but that has changed a lot in the USA.
Anyway, there is no way we are seeing 3000 COP to the dollar for years. The reason is that the Colombian economy is a mess, and it is going to take at least 2 years for its economy to sort itself out. Internationally, no one wants the COP right now.
