They are closing the RLD and closing (again for the first time) the coffee shops, why don't they just cover the canals, while they are at it?

Quite a few years ago they closed the coffee shops. Then they realized that they depend on the coffee shops. So they reopened them. Guess what's going to happen when the close the coffee shops and the windows this time?

I know they want to make Amsterdam a Museum and not a party town. But they have this area called MUSEUMplein. Why not put all the MUSEUMS there? Why not make that area the cultural center of Amsterdam. And leave DeWallen the party center. Since it is already the party center of Amsterdam anyway.

I could not agree more, have been there couple of years back to back and the hooliganism seems to stoop to new low everytime and that has not only ruined the experience but also ruined the dutch culture.

Local people have also become cold hearted because of rash tourism and I have seen that change over the years. And I don't blame them for this, they didn't ask for this.

I agree, there is way too much drunkenness in De Wallen that's out of control. It's too bad really, I feel like people have changed. Not everyone used to get so drunk and belligerent.

Anyone know if American Citizens with an overnight layover are allowed to leave the terminal to get a hotel? I have the possibility of having a 15 hour overnight layover and was looking at potentially getting a hotel and having an escort if it was possible. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have seen a few things here and there about the Schengen countries but it keeps changing quickly.

No, it's not allowed at the moment. And even if it was allowed to enter the country, you would not be able to get an escort (not legally anyway) because prostitution is not allowed at the moment.

I think they have been planning on removing / relocating the RLD for years now. Always fallen short of actually achieving the goal as the majority of the window girls are against the move. However I believe this is the first time that the majority of political parties including the prime ministers party has all agreed to finally agree on this change.

I have mixed feelings about this, obviously the convenience of where the RLD is current located is a major plus for mongers that want to visit.
