I'm not sure that 50% of Republicans are racist or xenophobic or homophobic or misogynistic or? But certainly a large percentage of them are. My fond hope is that all of these idiots will leave the GOP and form their own party.

I agree with you and also do not believe that most of the GOP are racists, etc.

Labeling people as racists, misogynistic, and homophobic should be used more sparingly and only where it is a without doubt, especially the racist part as that can ruin people's careers and livelihoods. I choose to be more careful with my words, pointing my finger at "cultural prejudice" or those that believe in a "cultural hierarchy". That large sect of the GOP seem to push their WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) image of what America should be.

On an individual basis, those people are not even detrimental. Unfortunately, due to the effects of herd / hoard mentality, the actions of the group effectively becomes xenophobic and exclusive in nature. Unspoken social friction will continue to exist and I don't even fully support legislating more civil rights. But my concern is when the hoard's positions become incorporated into actual political platforms and agendas. Then the crazies start taking positions of power and you now have nut job, uncouth conspiracy theorists like Marjorie Taylor Greene in the United States Congress and assholes like Josh Hawley trying to become the next Republican JFK.

Trump failed in one of his major trade policy goals because the USA Trade deficit is driven more by macroeconomic factors, like how much a country spends and saves, than it is by tariffs and foreign trade practices, analysts said.

"The Trump administration never had a feasible plan for reducing the trade deficit," explained Mary Lovely, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. "Their 2017 tax cut ensured that the USA As a whole would continue to spend more than it produced, hence the need for a current account deficit. The tariffs on China reduced imports from China, but these were mostly replaced with imports from other sources."

The Southern strategy was a Republican Party electoral strategy to increase political support among white voters in the South by appealing to racism against African Americans.

Dixiecrats emerged after Truman's 1948 integration of the military.

In the south, in the 1960's, the democratic party was deeply divided, with George Wallace tugging the party apart from President Johnson's big, dominant, civil rights expansion.

That gave President Nixon the space to attract southern racists into the GOP in large numbers.

The Republican Party abandoned their historic commitment to civil rights. Another big turning point was the nomination of Barry Goldwater, '64 election. He ran on a strong states rights platform and only won five Deep South states and his home state of Arizona. That was essentially the end the Republican Party as we knew it.

And Trump summoned the far right, militia, survivalist, conspiracy theory peddling, Alex Jones, Christian Identity cluster on board. These had before only looked at 3rd Party options. And it's true that there was some of this in Palin, especially with the goofy global conspiracy theories.
