I never thought I would see the day when I couldn't just jump on a plane and fly to my favorite destination in the world. I don't know but it's right in the middle there in your graphic.

    There are several.

The lights are the way to find them.

Meeting the Famous Boxer, Marvelous Marvin Hagler at HELP!

So the Boxing sports world lost a legend on March 13th, 2021, Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

It was way back in the day (90's), that I ran into him and his brother, at HELP during carnival. He was one of the nicest sports celebs you'll ever meet. I was very surprised at how much taller I was (me 5'11) than him, but make no mistake about it, he was a solid muscular man, from head to toe (and good looking). Obviously not someone to be messed with. He shall missed by family and those in the sporting world.

Pretty sure I'd taken a pic of him and his brother back then, but can't seem to find it. Anyway here is a little nostalgia from that Rio Carnival era.

    New Yorkers

When I was a university student, I met lots and lots of people from New York City. One thing that struck me about almost all of them was how worldly and sophisticated they thought they were. Well, as I got to know those individuals more, something struck me about them. Many of them had not been to many other places in their lives outside of New York, which they viewed to be the center of the universe, sometimes even getting into heated arguments with each other over who knew the most about the Big Apple, much to my amusement. The fact of the matter was that with time I discovered that there was nothing "worldly" or "sophisticated" about nearly all of them because they hadn't been anywhere other than New York! And it showed. Yes, New York is a great American city. But, it isn't the world. It's just a small part of it. To be worldly, you've got to see and experience the world. As much of it as you can. Because New York alone isn't going to be nearly enough. That doesn't cut it.

What's so bizarre is that, at least in regard to safety, everyone, not only here but on other forums, in Lonely Planet, in the US State Department, has their own Rio. It's as if each person is talking about a different city. For example, I'm a New Yorker, born and bred, and I can tell you pretty much exactly the dos and don'ts of New York City and I'm pretty sure there is a consensus on that. But everybody has a different idea about crime and violence in Rio.

Bottom line, I'm just going to ignore everybody. I'm getting off the plane and if everyone is wonderful or if I get machine gunned by gangbangers or both, I'll just take it as it comes.

I does sound a little bit off putting, all the gun fights and whatnot, however what if I can use those stairs to my advantage? If I spot a guy with a machine gun, I'll just grab the barrel and use that as a sort of lever to flip him over and throw him down the stairs. My hands are licensed deadly weapons.

Also, does anyone know if I can get a case of rocket propelled grenades through Brazilian customs? In my checked baggage of course. The reusable launcher will go in my carry on, and it's all for personal use, not resale, so I don't see a problem with import taxes. Here in the Middle East (I'm an American expat in Israel) a lot of little misunderstands are straightened out by a few well placed RPGs.

I think Rio needs me, now more than ever.

After I take care of any gang wars, then I can go down the hill to Mab's and relax with a few margaritas and have a chat with some of the local young ladies.

    Forget Babilônia!

There is absolutely no risk of getting robbed in Babilônia. The problem is that two favelas share the same morro, Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. They are run by two different gangs, CV and TCP. As the favela is pacificated there are lots of heavily armed police, PM, between the two favelas. Unfortunately, the peacekeeping doesn't work. The two gangs fight a lot. Machinegunfire is very common, both daytime and nighttime. Sometimes people die from stray bullets.

Even if the two gangs have a truce the gangs will have their armed "soldiers" on guard. It's not unusual to see 2 dozen of young guys with machineguns, several of them on drugs. These guys couldn't care less about that you "look a little scary". They would propably not harm you, but as you want to avoid looking down a gun barrel you wouldn't feel comfortable staying in Babilônia.

I wouldn't recommend an old an heavy guy to stay in Babilônia. The ladeira is very steep, but you can use a moto-taxi or minibus. However as your apartment says it's located on the "top of Babilonia Hill", this will mean that you'll have to climb a lot of stairs. Unless you're very fit you won't like that.

Look for a place in Copacabana. Your problem isn't the safety in Rio, your problem is that you worry too much about everything. The muggers will propably smell your fear and you'll end up getting robbed.
If I were you I would stay home.

Thank you very much, however everything I am reading is much more recent than that.

These are the kind of things I'm reading:

I was checking out an apartment on airbnb owned by a man named George.

    https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17380848

The apartment is located in the Morro the Babilônia favela. That's on a steep hill perched over Posto 1 of the Copacabana beach.

This is a comment left by Oskar May 2017:

"We got mugged once in Rio, at the beach and not in the favela, which made our experience as tourists feeling that the favela was a lot safer than many tourist areas. ".

    George responded:

"While the favela may look frightening at times, it is actually much safer than below. Here it is strictly prohibited to mess with visitors, while in the designated tourist areas it is 'open season'. ".

Now on the other hand, smartertravel.com has makes this comment:

"Travelers who have accidentally wandered into Rio's favelas have gotten shot and injured".

    https://www.smartertravel.com/tips-r...ers-stay-safe/

And provides a link to a map (attached) which helpfully points out the exact locations of these death traps, including Morro the Babilônia.

    So who is right?

I am 60, but I'm 6'1", 200 pounds, broad shoulders and work out a lot. I can look a little scary. I guess I'll just have to wing it and hope for the best.

Non-violent crime. Anything valuable which is not locked up or securely attached to your body will quite possibly vanish.

Violent crime. If there are a lot of people around you are safe, even if it is a poor area such as the infamous Vila Mimosa. If there are not a lot of people around, even of it is in tourist area like Copacabana Beach, however it is after sunset, you will quite possibly to be approached by a gentleman pointing a weapon at you who will demand your valuables and he means business.

    Does this sound about right?
The reality is that Brazil invested in security for the World Cup and the Olympics, so Copacabana is much safer than 10 years ago.

    Alexia Belucci

    Alexia belucci.

    https://www.gp-guia.net/viewtopic.ph...63041&start=20

    Dear Harry:

    Fode-se.

Look, pal, I am after this post going to follow the suggestion of a veteran of this board and ignore you.

But I am going to do so by swapping a story about the great time my cock had with the pictured and linked girl, Alexia Belucci.

She was my top 1 or 2 all time girls.

She was "ingra" at 4 x4.

Then she became a freelancer (so she keeps 100% of her tight Italian Brazilian pussy's work.

I had her 20 or more times, most pernoite.

    She defined pernoite.

    Pernoite is:

Go to a healthy dinner of sushi at the JW Marriot.

Return to the apartment in rua djalma Ulrich.

Fuck for 2 hours, sleep for an hour, fuck for 1-2 hours, sleep for 1-2 hours, fuck. Repeat until noon - 14 h. Maybe go to a nice place like a university in gavea, to walk and enjoy the moment, buy her a book because she is smart, a book about mythology.

    That happened 11 years ago.

Yes, whether it happened 11 minutes ago, or 11 years, or 20 years ago is legit.

Try this: come to a country in person before you post about it, and especially before you criticize the guys who have been here. Or, go ahead and put in the VR goggles for your map program and a big jar of lube for your fleshlight.

Now, I too will ignore you.

    Respectfully.
