I believe Rizo de Oro has a 4 hour option, but I don't know if they honor it on weekends.

Late night pedestrian boarder crossing times

Planning on making a trip into Tijuana and was wondering what the pedestrian crossing time back into San Diego, say after 10 pm, has been this past week or so. I know it's usually no wait at that time, mid-week, I'm just wondering what it's been like with all the shit going on recently. 5 hour crossing mid morning on a Friday, for example.

And you do have a good question as to why I'm hesitant to bring my Passport (Book) into Mexico, and the answer is if I don't need to, I don't want to, because I literally guard my Passport with my life.

So the obvious reason is a Passport is a pain in the ass if lost, especially in a foreign Country, but in my case, I have multiple entry visas for two Countries good for five and ten years each which took months to get, and are pasted into my Passport which I would have a difficult time replacing if I lost my Passport, hence my hesitancy.
Well Surfer I will try your theory next week on my flight. I will try to use just the card, but have my book with me also just in case. I will let you know how it goes.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. What if you get on the flight from Tijuana to bumfuck using your card. But then bumfuck to Tijuana they tell you that you must show a passport or you are not going anywhere? If I don't remember anything from the Boy Scouts 40 years ago, I remember the motto is Be Prepared. No sense in not being prepared on purpose.

Other Reasons To Guard Your Passport Besides The Obvious

I leave my passport card in my car all the time so I had a decision to make. Take the chance that I will be able to fly with just the card or risk being late and go back and get my book. I went back for the book and was happy I did as I had a feeling I would have a hard time getting on the plane without it. My opinion is that the people looking at passports will be confused by the card and not think it's real.

So my question is why are you so hesitant about the book? Once in your destination just keep it in hotel lock box or somewhere secure and use the card as ID to walk around with. That's what I do and never have been questioned.

Good luck and sorry I couldn't have a more precise answer for you.

I checked on the Volaris Website and they state for domestic travel a valid ID is required, and for International travel a Passport. Still trying to see what AeroMexico's policy is.

So to rephrase my question, has anyone flown domestically within Mexico and shown another form of ID besides a Passport.

And thanks for all the responses thus far.
I fly one round trip from Tijuana per month. While I carry my passport with me because Volaris has told me I might be refused without it, I have never been asked for it. My passport card has always been sufficient ID. I also always carry a valid FMM. Very rarely asked for it, but you can get deported if you are stopped and don't have it. Once or twice last year they were checking FMM's of people returning and trying to take them off of them. I just told them I was going to Tijuana (in Spanish) and they let me keep it every time. I haven't seen them doing that this year.

The last time was when I went to Merida Jan 2020, and before that, it was Monterrey in Oct 2019. I used the card with Volaris and Aeromexico.

Is it the same now? Honestly, I won't know until I start traveling again.
This is what I have surmised is that a Passport Card will work for domestic air travel within Mexico. Logically when you think about it, they issue an FMM with a Passport Card and associated number, so if the Mexican Visa is issued with it, why would you be barred from flying domestically with it as Mexican Immigration has recognized it. And Volaris has confirmed this, yet we still have a lot of different opinions about my question regarding it.

I appreciate everyone's feedback on this as I may do some travelling in Mexico during the next month while Colombia is surging and in lockdown mode. As soon as that's over, adios Mexican Chicas, I'm back to MDE, albeit the food is great in Mexico.
