True, pay goes directly to chica. BB is not hurting for business, have a friend there now on site for 10 days & he said it's been full. Good selection of chicas. Even though they did go up on price to 3000 p /1-2 hrs, he stayed in Sosua a couple days & found it so bad cause of curfew, shut down drinks after 3 PM, he went to Oasis (former Field of Dreams) for a couple days & ST there was 3500 p. There were a few doable chicas and some cows. LOL he did get a room special of $35/ night there though. Only a few staying there.

The hotel will not get anything from this price increase.

What a Difference a Day Can Make!

I just stayed in BBs last week. In preparation for my trip I downloaded the latest version of the rules last weekend from the newsletter and the prices were what I had expected from my research (2500ST /4500 LT). But when I arrived this past Monday, at the end of my 1st session the chica told me that the rates had been increased by 500 pesos! Of course this is not enough to get excited about & I paid it after having the mamasan confirm that the rates indeed had just been increased.

Now what's really interesting is that this sudden price increase was done like a day after the 3 pm liquor embargo went into effect in Sosua! You be the judge of whether that's a coincidence or not.

The taxi mafia and uber drivers who have their permission to operate after curfew will know when flights are arriving and be there to service customers. Of course the advice to have a driver arranged in advance is solid advice. Apologies I cannot help you with a recommendation. But other frequent travelers on here may be able to pitch in.

You can arrange transportation in the form of an appointment at any time. I have left at odd hours. If you are leaving Blackbeard's, they will arrange it for you.

I have bought it in two areas near Puerto Plata city. One is as you enter the city center -there was a shop there -can't recall the name, second one most recently is at the super mercado as you drive towards the playa dorada area (its off the main road) . They have booths inside that mercado for claro and one other (Vivo I think). STI airport should itself have options -but I never waited there enough to look for it.

    SIM cards

I also had an Altice and Viva as backup. Darn cheap overall (especially since you are working) - 15 USD for 2 weeks total in a combination of SIMs.

    1. Do Blackbeard's guests pay in US dollars or DR pesos at Blacbeard's itself?

    2. Do you recommend having Blackbeard's arrange transportation from STI and just paying the taxi mafia prices to get there? (The aircraft arrives about noon).

    3. What is the "schedule" at Blackbeard's?

    4. Are there things to do near Blackbeard's other than the obvious?

    5. Are the rooms with more than one room simply adjoining bedrooms? Some of the advertisements say some rooms have bars and sitting areas, etc and two rooms, but it's not clear if the sitting areas and bars are in a separate area than the bedrooms.

    6. Does the internet work there? (I bring work).

Any additional information you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Food, carts, Spanish.

    2. You can bring food items into the rooms, the hotel does not want that, but they can't do anything about it. Keep your food sealed or in the refrigerator if you don't want ants in the room.

    3. It's easy, no carts needed.

    4. The lack of Spanish ability will negatively impact the trip. Managers and waitresses speak English, very few chicas speak passable English. Overall you'll be fine.

    1. In Sosua, a few Blackbeard's veterans strongly suggested not running a tab, so that advice will be followed as well.

    2. Do you know if Blackbeard's allows you to bring some food items into the rooms for snacks? Some hotels don't want outside snacks, water, etc. I don't drink alcohol so that won't be an issue.

    3. Is it easy to walk around in the gated community or should one have some sort of transportation? Someone earlier said Jenny's rents golf carts.

    4. Will the lack of Spanish ability negatively impact the trip? In Sosua it's hit or miss with many not speaking English. There is always google translate.

    Thanks for the tips.

I think BB lets you bring snacks and water, but frown on outside alcohol. I think there policy is on the website, but you can email them to check.

Easy to walk around the community, the beach restaurants a few minutes away, Jennys, and some other restaurants easy walking distance.

I don't speak much Spanish, no problem at BB, haven't had a big problem in Sosua. Let some basic phrases, like "how much" and learn your numbers. Or, use translation apps.

For transportation, I have used Tropiclink. You can search for that. I have posted about it before, and I found out about it on the BB thread. You can probably search on this site for information.

I don't remember what I paid, but it was much cheaper than having BB arrange or using a taxi. It is a shared ride, but I arrived very late in Santiago and had it by myself. Not sure where you are located, but they have a US number you can call, or you can book online.
