I will be visiting Mexico City for the first time in early November for 5 nights. This will be part of my 30 day Latin America tour that is replacing the trip to Pattaya that I had scheduled but am cancelling. I will be hitting Costa Rica (San Jose, Jaco and Tamarindo), Panama City, Guadalajara and Mexico City.

I have been to CR and Panama many time so I feel comfortable with bookings there. In Guadalajara, the Love It Consulado in the Americana area was recommended.

I am now in need of some Mexico City intel. I have read the forum but with all of the Covid changes I am not sure what is current and what isn't. For a first timer is Zona Rosa a good place to base myself or would you recommend somewhere else. It sounds like I should be able to walk to a lot of bars and restaurants. Any guest friendly hotel recommendations? Since I'm only there 5 nights I'm not too hung up on cost, just want a comfortable bed, a nice shower and a balcony.

Also, any must see spots to meet women. I like freelancer type bars over massage parlors or strip clubs but I am open to explore.

Appreciate the help here. I've been reading the forums trying to get a good understanding of the CDMX scene but I'm still not clear if ATMs are better vs buying pesos before traveling and which hotels are girl friendly.

ATMs:

I have Bank of America and read that you can use Scotiabank ATMs without the fees; anyone with BoA have used the Scotiabank ATMs and got a better rate?

Hotels:

I don't see many hotels mentioned around Reforma other than Hilton and Barcelo, but seems Barcelo may not be as friendly as some hoped. I am looking to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Reforma but not sure if they are friendly or not. AirBnB is a cheaper option but seems most girls don't visit private residences. Any recommendations for a nice friendly hotel around Reforma / Polanco?

Usually you will get a better deal using an ATM as opposed to using a money changer or buying pesos in your hotel. How much better will depend on the fees charged by you bank, the ATM bank and the exchange rate. If you are from the USA I would recommend getting an ATM with Charles Schwab. It does require that you set up a brokerage account and a checking account but there are no minimums or trading requirements that I know of. Schwab refunds 100% of the ATM fees and give a very good exchange rate in the countries I have used the card in. And never pay with dollars unless something is priced in dollars.

As far as hotels go, I am looking myself. I am doing 5 nights in Mexico City and am first trying to decide the part of the city I want to stay in and then to find a guest friendly hotel in that area.

Well I've heard good and bad with these, some have been ripped off while others had no problem. Most of the time it's a small amount just so the girl knows your legit 200 pesos at most. But that is the risk you need to take if you think it's worth it.

As far as the bank card goes the info I've always sent is you just go to Oxxo or something similar and make the deposit and take a pic of the receipt to forward to them. A lot of the girls in Mexico are not Mexican and cannot have a bank account but they have debit cards that they can load money to so they don't have to use cash for Uber, rappi, or ordering off Amazon. With those cards you just do the Oxxo thing like I mentioned. No banks involved at all.

You were right about just using Oxxo, had a girl explain the same process to me. And it's exactly as you mentioned. And as far as deposits in general, I agree. Though with well-reviewed girls I have no problem with it.

This question is about ways to make deposits to girls that require them if you don't have a Mexican bank account. I was told girls who ask for deposits are full of it. I certainly wouldn't do that for an escort and certainly not in Mexico. Guys who are more experienced in CDMX should set you straight on it. When I was researching a trip I connected with escorts via Twitter. I think one asked me for a deposit. I thought it was a ridiculous request.

I assume you are based in Phoenix? If so, did you drive from San Diego to Phoenix? Thats a long drive.

I'm sitting on a pile of free rental car days and can make the drive in under five hours. Definitely not worth the time to save on one person's airfare but a party of three.

I see that that the COVID test requirement for return flights to the States is a hot topic and a source of consternation. If you live anywhere near San Diego, CBX is not only a good option but it can provide significant savings. I just got back from CDMX and used CBX because round trip flights from Phoenix were $555 for my dates whereas flights from Tijuana were just $91 on Aeromexico. Even with the $16 each direction cost to use CBX, that was still nearly $1,300 savings in airfare, as there were three of us. The best part is no testing required because the return flight is to the Tijuana airport and using CBX is a land crossing to the American side of the CBX facility. The extra $1,300 more than paid for a week's worth of dinners at high end places in CDMX like Buena Barra, Umai Sushi, Blanco Colima, La Docena, Nobu Japanese, etc. By the way, the omakase at Nobu for 1,595 per person is insane value because omakase costs double that in much lesser Japanese restaurants in the States.
