American on his first visit doing the Ugly American thing. Flashing cash and valuables in front of the locals? Hawaiian shirt and shorts with flip flops while flashing a Rolex and gold neck chain? Wife wearing some expensive jewelry? He got someone's attention real fast. Another guy I can think of who had something similar happen was a Russian dude who managed to piss off a Mexican neighborhood so a huge mob of Mexicans attacked where he was staying to drag him out and lynch him. Word of his bad personality with negative charisma spread fast. . .

No signs of violence at the death scene. They found him trapped in a bathroom window and died of mechanical asphyxiation. Very vague as to which hotel, as well as other details. But it doesn't look like he was beaten or thrown out of a windows. I do know, based on both articles, that alcohol was involved.

Yeah not too scared in the alley or around the clubs. Plenty show of force between police and military. I've seen crazy shit on Vegas strip and Compton. If you want trouble, it isn't hard to find.

I was getting some taco's across the street from HK at the Azul taco stand about 10 pm a few weekend ago and I could not believe the "energy" on the street. All ages of people. Didn't really feel to dangerous. The vibe was really cool. . hell. They need to put some tables out there on the sidewalk and turn the street into a tourist zone!! Kind of like they did with Vegas and Freemont street. Make it kind of a cool. Safe walking zone.

Have I been lucky? Certainly. But between the LEO (Law Enforcement Officers) and the cartels protecting their golden goose, I'd call it one of the safest 'hoods in Tijuana.

I wondered about the alley in the day and night. During the day I too don't mind roaming in the alley but didn't know at night it has a different vibe.

The alley simply isn't really that scary, even in the wee hours of the night. I've been there a hundred times, and never seen any violence or other problem.

There are a ton of security cameras. And there is a ton of people. Plus a military patrol that circles the block. Lastly, there is one entry and one exit so they are chokepoints. The most dangerous times for the alley is day time in the middle of the week when everyone is asleep. Of course it is dangerous the further one gets from the alley at night on the weekends because most security resource is focused on protecting the alley.

What is a LEO station? I googled it and can't find any info.

I'm not scared of walking around Tijuana. I was more uneasy walking around Afghanistan and Iraq as they like to put you on Al Jazeera getting beheaded for propaganda. If someone robs me for my cash then cool. We were around Fallujah when they barbecued the 4 security contractors and I would rather go out with my own round chambered, but too late if you get caught and disarmed.

See soldiers with rifles in Colombia a lot too and along highways at various checkpoints.

Same thing in Honduras and El Salvador. The McD has a guy standing watch outside with a shotgun and the soda delivery guys are strapped to ensure they don't get robbed by MS13.

Friday night national guard was out in vehicles everywhere, revulsion street, and of course the zona. But unlike all years past, they were also on foot with machine guns walking around checking out the scene. What exactly does everyone have the machine guns out for. ? Has their ever been a military or national guard machine gun shootout in zona? If you look close, they even have their finger out, on the trigger hand. Not on the trigger but it's out while they are bouncing around on bumpy roads in back of pickups. Starting to think these machine guns all over the place may be the biggest danger in zona.

They're not machine guns. They are HK G3 assault rifles and operates in both close and open bolt. And those are the only firearms issued to guardsmen. They don't get sidearms. So they got them because rifles were the only things issued to them. They don't really have a choice. They are there because it is a show of force. It's a show.

The reason they are there is because the lockdown has essentially ended, and the cartel were shut down like any other business during the lockdown. And now the cartel is waking up and they are ready to flex their muscles and kill each other in a territory fight. So the National Guards are called in to flex muscle to deter the violence.

But the Mexican National Guard scares me. They look pretty green and were patrolling in platoon size but in 2 pickups around the alley block. Got stuck with the older HK G3. Hope they maintained them. One trooper on top had poor muzzle discipline and placed his muzzle down right at the back of the head of the driver as the truck cruises around the block. One bump in the pothole and a little bad luck and yeah it was a major fuckup waiting to happen. But I do suspect they are carrying an empty mag in the rifle to avoid accidents.
