I'll be coming to Rio with friends, including an attractive and very open minded female who is not my girlfriend.

Would hate to exclude her from the fun. The plan is to do a lot of Dolce Vita / whatever Boates we can find most of the time. My understanding is that she will not be welcome in termas, right?

I assume she will have no problem getting into Casablanca/Marrakech/Mosaico and the like.

I've just never been to Rio with a woman. Any suggestions appreciated.

Allowing couples was a thing at a number of the termas, back-in-the-day, on certain days, but not so much these days. I'm not sure, but it may still be allowed at certain termas, just phone and ask.

If she's open minded enough to want to be your "pretend girlfriend", you could consider checking out swinging in Rio, as an option. PM (or DM) Rio Bob, he may have some helpful tips and suggestions. Or just search/read Rio Bob's many posts w/r to his cool swinging escapades.

Gentlemen, as my trip comes to an end, I want to give back to the forum in the form of a newbie's guide to Rio. Keep in mind that this guide was made for the newbie, not the experienced monger spending a long time on ground. As such, my recommendations reflect 1.) my own bias and 2.) my own perception of how to maximize one's time and experience without necessarily a big focus on saving some money. That being said. Here it is:

Pure gold here, thanks for taking the time and care to write this up. How much did risk & hassle from see-19 factor into your decision to go? And how much practical daily impact did you notice (I. E. Masks, limitations on people in venues, etc)? Appreciate your input.

I was in a terma, fairly long time ago, and I saw an American girl partying there. Unfortunately she caused a scene at the end. She partied with 2 girls in a 3-some but would not pay the 2-girl price. She also kept arguing with the folks there, until the guys in her party stepped in and paid for her part.

Interesting. Come to think about it, I remember hearing some talks about mixed days at termas many many years ago, can't tell. But even if they once did it, they stopped a long time ago.

I read two boates were closed today by the municipality, one in Jardim and one in Barra (don't know the names). Technically boates, dance clubs and event halls should not operate at least until August 9.

Are all you guys who routinely burn up this thread complaining about hotels not being girl-friendly the same guys who are running around Rio in gangs acting like the fat kid who has been left alone in the candy shop? Or worse, and now thinks he owns it.

Grow up. Act like adults and you will not have an issue. I never have in all the years and months at a time staying at hotels all over Rio had one girl-friendly hotel issue.

Act like someone with something to hide and that you can't be trusted and guess what? You won't be.

You guys keep beating this same horse over and over and over again instead of looking in the mirror.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of girl friendly hotels around, at least very few listed online that I can find. The only other nice looking option I found was Promenade Princess, but it was fully booked.

I would appreciate any advice on girl friendly hotes. Preferably close to the beach, but most importantly in a safe area where I can walt to close by bars or restaurants at night.

Just off the top of my head look at the Porto Bay hotel which is dead center where the girls and bars are in Copacabana. Other hotels girl friendly are Marriott and Pestana.

I went into centro and linked up with JimmyBoy99.

We hit some prives, and had a good time.

Then we hit copa, where the 7 amigos from this week linked up across from the Marriot. The agro pan handlers really are a downer. We headed over to Solarium. I had an excellent dinner at the sushi place across from Solarium with another monger, while the majority of the patrol went up in Solarium.

All is well in Rio.

That said, here is my immediate action.

I have a GoPro in a scuba housing with a lanyard. If things go south with a girl in the room, I put the camera around the neck. The necklace case for a cell phone accomplishes the same thing; one can be bought at decathlon.

If things go south, I immediately start filming the situation.

Then of course, just get dressed. But the reason this situation is so bad, is you are literally naked, expecting a BBBJ, and the covered BJ always kills it.

What a nightmare! Try going to the Cocal Casino in Jaco, Costa Rica if you want a real horror show. The only girls there that will BBBJ are 35 year olds with severe baby damage and bad teeth. I'm currently in Colombia where it's not quite as bad as CR, but this has been a real struggle. Curiously-Colombia lovers just shrug and deal with it. I'm not sure how anyone could ever enjoy a covered blowjob unless maybe it was your first blowjob.

Knowing the quality of the beach close to your hotel (one of the basic travel information we share) is important for visitors who love the ocean.

Barra is always clean.

Even leblon and Ipanema is bisected by a shit river of sewage.

Not to start another high class. Feud but I swim in the clean water of Barra posto 6 and 7 weekly.

Sometimes you can see if the water is unclean and dangerous. Other times you can't, which is why there are specialized labs where water samples are analyzed and recommendations are issued on a daily basis. If anything, I would take the LNEA suggestions as basic and minimal, as in if they say impropria, don't swim there.

Jaco wasn't bad before things exploded. There were always a few attractive, young girls floating around at Cocal and the disco. They weren't hardcore because they didn't seem too concerned with scoring a P4 P guy. You had to buy them drinks and dance with them before you asked them to come back to your hotel.

My buddies and I were at the Beatle Bar early in the evening. A group of cute girls were shooting baskets at an inside hoop. We try to start a conversation and get in on the game. No way Jose! Not going to happen. The girls wanted to hang with the girls. Long story short, by chance we met them at the disco and we're partying like Beatle Bar never happened. We took home three of them back to Cocal for the night.

I have stayed there as well, but stopped because the scene on that end dried up (mainly Help, Puta Praia, L'uomo). Accommodations were decent, but on the more expensive side.
