The following health advisory for Fiji mongers is what Dr Fong would certainly be saying officially if (1) he was allowed to provide health advice based solely upon the medical science, and (2) if government were to also make policies for the health and well-being of workers in illegal sectors of the Fiji economy, in addition to legal sectors.

(1) 60% of eligible adults are now vaccinated, but 60% of the eligible population is not 60% of the total population.

(2) Even those of us who are fully vaccinated can still get COVID, though our chances of getting it is less.

(3) While vaccinated people will only get mild to moderate illness, there is still a roughly 5% chance that we can get severe illness.

(4) If we do get COVID, we can pass it on to unvaccinated people, including our children.

The science tells us (and I'm sure Dr Fong would be saying this if he felt he could speak freely and frankly), we must all continue to be cautious.

For our general lifestyle, we must continue with vaccination until more than 80% of the TOTAL population is vaccinated. That's 300,000 more than the current target.

As individuals we must continue with frequent washing hands, physical distancing, and wearing a mask.

As mongers, we must recall our ABCs from the days when HIV / AIDS was the main thing to worry about.

A = Abstinence.

B = Be faithful to one sex partner.

C = Condom.

In the age of COVID, this must be updated to our ABHs:

A = Abstinence.

B = Be faithful to only one carefully-chosen side chick.

H = Hazmat suit, with a cock-sized hole in the crutch.

Apart from online hookups via FB, Tinder and whatnot, there is apparently a very lively scene still ongoing at certain motels. You will know the ones. Usually these are for BYO Provider, but in-house staff will almost certainly be present nowadays.

I must admit, I was wondering where the hookups are happening, now that the traditional face-to-face venues in Suva have put up their shutters. I do know of one Suva hotel that still offers "massage" and keeps 2 girls on the premises for this purpose, but it's just so dangerous now that as a service to public health I will not divulge the location.

Called in at GC to find out what's what. The Fifteen is now down to The Eight. Girls have dropped out like flies, after paying babysitters at home to free them up for 12 HR shifts that netted them zero customers. My hostess there said she was owed $360 on payday as her cut of the $50 that punters pay to the Chinese gentleman at the front desk, but this ended up as $10 for a week's work after the penalties had been deducted. This is called Wages Theft, and is illegal in Fiji. A delegation of the SC girls went to Labour Dept. to report it. Two months later, an official came to chat to the owner, and he just said ok I won't do it again. No further action taken. But he did carry on doing it.
