In Africa, there are a lot of counterfeit products that make it to store shelves from China. They look just like the real product with same packaging in all. China not only counterfeit purses and shades, they will make fake toothpaste, over-the-counter meds, and condoms that are sub-quality. Stores in Africa buy it because it is cheap at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. Best to go to large US Branded hotel like the Hilton and Marriot they may have hotel stores which do not get their supplies from China.

Also he could just purchase from home, remove the condom from the box and place in a socks, which you then place in your shoes. Unless you wife packs your bag or is untrusting you and intentionally goes into your luggage, it should be well discussed.

Is there a place to get good quality condoms in Nairobi? I can't pack any without my wife freaking out about my upcoming 'photo trip'. Thanks in advance.

Get it at the airport shopping and stuff them in your bag before checking in!

It is a few years since I was there. There was no problem earlier in the day but in the evening and late at night the needed you to register the lady and if the room as not a double they charged the surcharge. I always booked my own work travel accommodation but they charged an extra 100 for a double so never did it. In the end I stayed in other locations.

I ended up changing to Palacina. I thought I had a double occupancy booked at Sarova but didn't. I tried to change to a double through the Chase Sapphire rewards agent but they wouldn't let me do it. So weird. I cancelled the whole thing and made the change. Thanks much!!

I stayed there in July 2019 and never had a problem. It is a huge surprise to read this! I had multiple guests over the course of a week and I always checked them in at the front desk. They never billed me an extra penny. I thought Nairobi was awesome. I will not stay there again; life is too short to fight with a hotel.

Some years ago one could use the spa of the Stanley with friends even without being a hotelguest. But that is over.

Make sure you booked a double room as they used to charge a USD $100 or USD $200 surcharge per night for a guest. If you didn't book a double ask the reception to change the booing they may however charge you and extra USD $100 a night. I stayed pretty regularly and the staff would give me no leeway on this. I did ask on one occasion and they said it was management / owners policy to avoid these overnight guests. Personally I think they were afraid the families staying would complain or give bad reviews.

In Mombasa area, any pharmacy have international brand, Durex, several different models. So I am sure Nairobi also. Also in supermarkets. So don't worry.

I'm first going to Nairobi. I also like polyurethane (like Skye) if I can get it and a good lube (like Astroglide) instead of KY.

You can get them from everywhere. Gas stations, supermarkets, kiosks, chemists. Usually at least few different Durex condoms available. If you need a specific type / size bring your own or use something like Jumia to order online.

Sarova Stanley, very good and a famous hotel in Kenya for its breakfasts though I am not sure it is the same breakfast nowadays that it got its fame from.
