Not to feed the troll, but Dark7, a true buttman backpacker, stayed in two pretty good hostels, one in Ipanema, and the other in Copa, just inside of a favela, like right up the road from the motoboy post, which is the dividing line -- the favela that is at Copa P5 or P6. Inevitably, there will be many who can tell me exactly the location of which I speak. I have the data somewhere. It was a really cool hostel. Dark7 ended up hanging there with his fellow travelers.

Actually, super hot women are to be found in Hostels, young, backpacker babes in their 20's. As for pricing it is frugal in the same way as staying in communidade (IE, in a favela) is, which some of our ISG members seem to favor.

Vagabundo, for one, favors the very safe environs of Barra. But the favela hostels mentioned were good options. I would be super careful about when I went in and out, and what I wore (a vasco shirt would be mandatory).

You can book a decent hotel room for just a little more.

The only times you want to avoid Rio is New Year's and Carnaval when everything gets costly and crazy. Otherwise, you're good.

I would maybe put semana Santa on that list as well. Not for any price reasons of course but rather due to the fact that most girls are unavailable as they are surrounded by family often preferring not to work as commerce dramatically slows down during this time.

Modern Bike on Rua Barata Ribeiro 658 have some quality bikes, but I'm not sure they sell used ones.

Zaga Bike on Rua Miguel Lemos 51 (well hidden) repairs and also rent bikes. Very competent staff used to handle imported quality bikes. They might have contacts for used quality bikes.

The problem is that there are no quality bikes made in Brazil. Mostly Caloi bikes which are bad quality. Quality bikes are all imported and very expensive.

Having a bike in Rio is fantastic. Not only for exercise but also for exploring the city. I've explored many bairros in Rio which I never would have visited if I didn't have a bike. You just have to be careful when riding on busy streets.

There are good cycle paths all the way from Santos Dumont to Grumari (last part without cycle paths but with hilly roads with little traffic).

I brought a bike from home, as extra luggage. When I'm not in Rio I have the bike stored in a friends house.

I'm on a very limited income so taking vacations is a big decision for me and when I finally have the money and the COVID regulations are all aligned I want to make the most of it. About making a fucking a decision, yes, that is decided. I will fuck. About youth hostels I've stayed in them a few times and in principle I like them. It's kind of fun hanging out with young travelers from around the world, having philosophical discussions over a few beers. And they are cheap. However I have this image of Rio as being a sort of wild party place where I might buy a beautiful brown girl in a bikini a few drinks at Mabs, pay her a few bucks and then take her up to my room for a night of wild sex. But I would need a room for that.

Absolutely a great way to see Cidade Maravilhosa, and get to know the some of the famous / infamous barrios of Rio. Good on you, for taking some time outside of mongering to explore (by bike), one of the premiere cities in the world.

Yes, the Centro to Copa bicycle ride, is pretty good, fairly safe and definitely a very scenic bike trail, (ie. via Copa ― Botafogo ― Flamengo ― Centro Santos Dumont).

Naturally there's the always, fun and fabulous, bike path in Zona Sul (ie. Leme ― Copacabana ― Ipanema ― Leblon ― Lagoa ― Jardim Botanico).

Just remember to take extra care if you're riding on the roads, as navigating Rio traffic can be very tricky and perilous.
