Last week I was in CDMX a few days. Was going to visit a friend for luch while there, and he directed to meet at a Starbucks at Plaza Alameda, near Bellas Artes and Metro Hidalgo. I searched for a hotel within walking distance of that area and chose Hotel Mina, looking like decent 3 star hotel.

Arrived to Hotel Mina at night 'round 9 pm and ate a toco dinner across the street corner, small restaurant. I don't think you overspent by much. However, I think it's best to negotiate in the local currency, especially if you plan to see them again on another trip and the dollar keeps going up against LatAm currencies.
