I would recommend that you keep an eye on the now suspended Amtrak service from NYC to Montreal. This line called the Adirondack was cancelled when Covid began and Amtrak is considering the reinstatement of the service sometime in 2022.

The 11 hour train ride is a long trip in lieu of a 1. 5 flight. I'm sure depending on the season there is some great scenery, but I find that's too much time to spend back and forth on a train.
